This programme is unique as there are no other specialist 1990's show on the BBC. If this show is successful which I am sure it will be the BBC local radio stations in Yorkshire may decide to link up with BBC Radio Manchester to take it.

Working for BBC Radio Manchester may open doors in other areas of the BBC for Stephanie to work for example Stephanie may be offered the chance of presenting Vinyl Heaven on BBC Yorkshire in addition of presenting the 90's show on BBC Radio Manchester.

Also BBC Manchester is home to some BBC Network Radio so Stephanie's show may attract the attention of BBC Radio 2 producers and management and they may decide to offer Stephanie the opportunity to present Sounds of the 90's on BBC Radio 2 produced by BBC Manchester or other projects on the network.

Don't forget Stephanie decided to break her life changing news on BBC Radio 5 Live which is based at BBC Manchester so bosses at BBC Radio Manchester may offered her job because they were impressed and producers from BBC Radio 5 Live will talk to producers and management of BBC Radio Manchester as they based within the same building about how great it would to work with Stephanie which may have given them food for thought to offer Stephanie this opportunity.

Although I'm not usually in Manchester myself, this is an interesting development. I'm familiar with Hirsty - principally from the days when Galaxy Digital was on DAB and TV down here - and as 90s music is essentially what I grew up with, and Absolute 90s is one of the stations I'm most likely to be listening to when I have a free hand, this seems like it would certainly be a format I'd tune in for if it went national...

But is she going to play Steps and B*Witched, as opposed to all the sh1t that makes up a playlist on Absolute 90's? THAT is the question!

This means that Stephanie's 90s show on BBC Radio Manchester will clash with Sara Cox's 80s show on BBC Radio 2 and Diana Luke's 60s show on BBC Radio Sheffield, York and Humberside. I wonder whether any BBC radio station does a 70s show at 10pm on Saturday nights?

That's a surprising choice of show for a BBC local station. Aren't they supposed to be aimed at over 55s? Or is that just what they get and they want to aim younger?

    * Aren't they supposed to be aimed at over 55s?

Yes but that only really applies to the daytime audience. Other off peak shows can target a different audience.

    Shame its not BBC Yorkshire

Depending on where you are you might be able to pick it up in Leeds or Sheffield on 95.1. Otherwise it's the interweb I'm afraid.

Remember Hirsty was on Gold for a while, so was appealing to an older audience as well as the younger one on Galaxy/Capital. I think Hirsty will do well. She has done it with compassion and to be honest with it not being high profile can get back into radio without all the 'sex change' crap normally thrown around. Unless of course the Daily Wail has a light news day!

Wasn't commenting on choice of presenter - just thought it was odd to do a 90s show on local BBC

And why should people over 55 not be allowed to like 90s music ? If you are 55 you were only 30 in 1990 so it is music you are very familiar with. You cannot pigeon hole people based on their age. My dad is 70 and stopped listening to Magic because it made him feel old, he didn't want that, he likes a lot of 90s and 00s stuff. I am sure many others over 50 don't want to be classed as old either.

I'm sure BBC Locals are not just aimed at the over 55's!

I'm 38 and have dived in and out of Local BBC stations for years. They're just like any other station, some shows, presenters and music appeal to different people.
Yes, I'm not one for the gardening programs as gardening is not my thing, but I've always enjoyed Toby Foster & Rony Robinson on BBC Sheffield, Martin Kelner on BBC Leeds & Jonathon Cowap on BBC York and I've listened to all of them since I was in my twenties!!

Listening Stephanie Hirst's show on BBC iplayer it is great.

The American guy that voices the jingles on Stephanie's show used to voice the jingles on BBC Radio 1 in the 1990's during the Johnny Beerling era when the station was known as 1 FM as the station has launched nationally on FM. The AM frequency closed in 1994.

I suspect that is why Stephanie chose that particular voice over. I think there was a clip of a talkover bit of a JAM jingle in the show opener.

I heard most of the first 45 minutes and enjoyed it - couple of apt song choices as well and had to laugh at the Shania Twain bit.

That Shania clip was inspired, as was the first full song she played.

Nice that she has now qualms about sending herself up.

Can anyone list at least some of the songs Stephanie played last night?

Just listened, great show. Loved the comment on the news of the 90's. Thanks Bunty, he used to read the news for me years ago and that was his name then. She did seem to enjoy sending herself up. A good way to break the ice I suppose.

The other voiceover on the show is a link back to the Daily Dose... it's the voiceover lady herself, Trish Bertram - ex of LWT and London 2012. But yes, you're right Phil - the male voice is John B Wells, the voice of Radio 1 back in the 90s.

It was great to drive home down the M60 on Saturday listening to someone thoroughly enjoying themselves on air. It's what's been missing from radio recently, and its great to have a person who knows radio like Steph back where she should be.

Trust me - this show will grow week on week as word gets round.... the first lady of the wireless is back :D
