Are Anniversaries a Jinx?!

Looking through Doctor Who's history, it always seems something bad happens within a year or so of a big anniversary.
10th-Though the Tenth Series itself was shown at the beginning of 1973, Jon Pertwee still left the show just over a year later after the proper Anniversary in November 1973.
20th-Peter Davison left within four months
25th-Patrick Troughton died one year earlier than this and the show got axed one year later.
30th-Well, The Dark Dimension storyline got cancelled. Tenuous, but it still wasn't good news!
40th-Very much the exception to the rule as I believe the show's comeback had been announced by then.
50th-Matt Smith leaving in just over a month from this.
Oh, and though it wasn't an Anniversary, it's interesting to note Jon Pertwee died not long before the TV Movie was transmitted in 1996.
So should we all be dreading Anniversaries and good news in future? On past form, maybe we should!

*Patrick Troughton died a year and eight months before the 25th anniversary, FFS!
Woo, there must be something in it. Tom Baker had better get his affairs in order soon.
Alternatively, to any sane and rational person, these deaths are obviously not connected to the incoming Doctors in any way. Honestly, do people really believe in curses and jinxes in 2013? How sad!
I may be misinterpreting the OP but I took the grinning smiley at the end of the original post to indicate that it wasn't meant entirely seriously.
Anyway, in 1962 within one year of the birth of the series not only were there no episodes but the BBC hadn't even bothered to create it never mind cancel it! Explain that, you with your so called 'facts', as if facts ever proved anything.
Also, if John Hurt really is the 9th Doctor:
Even if people come up with one or two, that's surely expected over 50 years? And I bet there aren't any weird unexplained ones like there was supposed to be when they made The Omen? Not that I believe that either but it was at least a little bit unusual.
Be more Pacific, as Dickens has correctly pointed out, it was just supposed to be a lighthearted thread stating some uncanny coincidences. It was never meant to be serious!:D
As far as Jinxes go, back in 2009, for that year only, every time I took a week off, a celebrity died. I think I was of the week Michael Jackson, Patrick Swayze, Farah Fawcett and one other celebrity who's name evades me at present; all of them died in pairs on the weeks I took of in June and September that year. Though it was sad and coincidental, it was a spooky coincidence but I didn't read too much into it and that's exactly what I was doing with this thread.
I've done a similar thread before pointing out the spooky coincidences between Doctor Who and James Bond but again, nothing serious.
So no, it isn't sad in my opinion, it's called trying to create an amusing thread of interest and if it didn't interest you, you weren't obliged to post!:D
And yes, the Patrick Troughton connection was a bit tenuous but I did say a year or so right at the beginning. So for that I should be allowed some serious leeway!
So did McGann's hopes of a TV series.
I think QuantumLeap has just answered for me.
Some people are easily amused
Bit bored today Daveyboy?
First of all correlation does not mean there is an association between the two variables. Clearly in this case it is obvious there is no association (unless it is the current actor who dies). Therefore it is just stupid to calculate the correlation coefficient. Also precise is not a good word to use, it is used when comparing estimators for the same parameter, in this case it is the correlation coefficient (and we know the values anyway). Your comment makes no statistical sense.
Not really, been itching to start this thread for a while but just never got round to it.
As I've already said, it was just supposed to be a little bit of harmless amusement to banter over and maybe have a laugh with. Can't believe people have been taking it so seriously!:D
It's almost the equivalent of telling a funny joke and someone pulling the joke to bits explaining why it isn't funny and not really appreciating the joke in the first place for it's humour!
Seriously, guys, I'm always up for a bit of serious discussion when people don't agree with me in the more serious threads but this really was supposed to be as light-hearted as they come!
I observed the correlation without claiming it meant anything. I was merely presenting it as a correlation which is closer (within a few months) than the OP's examples which have leeway of up to twenty months.
Of course all the examples on this thread are extremely weak. There is nothing remotely "spooky" or "uncanny" about any of these unremarkable coincidences.
I can lecture people especially when they make comments that make no sense and using terms inaccurately. Also I have observed mistakes by other people caused with your way of thinking so you making that comment doesn't change my attitude. Also it is perfectly rational.
At least it makes me feel better about the reception I got on the Rationalist Veterinarians forum when I told the 'my dog's got no nose' joke.
When spun a certain way they can sound spooky dooky but actually it just amounts to the fact that with the passage of time bad things happen to people.
Yeah, tell me about it! Just sums up the over-analytical nature of this forum lately. Lucky I'm like a Sontaran and am very thick skinned(some say I look like one as well!) or I'd be crying in my beer by now!
Oh, and if anyone wants to have another serious debate about Sontaran looks after that little self depreciating gag, go ahead and make my day.......;)
Thanks for a sensible post.
No worries. I really enjoyed your post. And whisper it...though I know logically such things should be ignored there is the other part of me that loves it. I grew up on the spooky tales about the Poltergeist curse. And don't even get me started on the King Tut one!
