Which insturmental soundtracks have really impressed you over the years? In recent times, I have been a big fan of work by Hans Zimmer. His score for Inception is, I think, his best work thus far.

Of all time my favourite composer is Danny Elfman. His scores to 80s classics like Batman and Beetlejuice are gorgeous.

The original Planet of the Apes has a great score, full of danger and shimmering weirdness. And Bernard Herrmann's scores were always excellent. His music for Taxi Driver, which was his last film, really evokes the violence of the film.

In recent years John Murphy's work for '28 Days Later' and 'Sunshine'

In the past Ennio Morricone 'For a Few Dollars More' and 'Once upon a time in America', John Carpenter for 'Halloween' and Jack Nitzsche for 'Starman'

Almost anything from Clint Mansell, and to expand on the remit slightly Mogwai's score for TV show Les Revenants was great...

"The Gravel Road" from that movie is one of the most awesome pieces of music ever.

Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), The Last of the Mohicans (1992) and Spartacus (1960) are the three I continue to listen to more than any others.
