" The Government's social mobility tsar has told Sky News that Britain is "on the brink of becoming a permanently divided nation" with millions facing low wages and young people locked out of the housing market."

"Chaired by Matthew Taylor, the commission warns of a future in which gated communities are the norm, schools are riven with division and fear of crime is on the rise."

but what can be done to stop the divide
As the government cannot make people different races or religions or class mix can they.

The politicians now are all minted millonaires living it up on freebie expenses so what chance does someone who fancies a change actually have unless their rich opponent does something really stupid like getting caught kiddy fiddling but even then they'll probably get away with it and keep their seat so really theres no point bothering until they die

It is nothing to do with different races or religion.

Alan Milburn said on BBC Breakfast this morning that whilst Britain's young have never been better educated, they have never had so little choice.

5 million people already earn below the living wage with most new jobs being low-paid dead end jobs. And with ever spiraling house prices the idea of home ownership is something that simply won't happen for a great many people.

But if you're safe inside a gated community is it not better for you and your family.

Well to a degree, yes. However, you still have to venture out sometimes.

A gated community is really just a prison. Dress it up with all the gardens etc. you want but its a prison of the mind and soul.

Ditch the fractional reserve ponzi scheme and the central planning nonsense.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2799262/no-entry-haves-wealthy-michigan-suburb-erect-fences-middle-streets-stop-detroit-nots-driving-city.html

ive seen some gated communities in Nottinghamshire, they look nice but they are already in nice areas, so i couldn't understand why they are gated?

I can't take seriously any article that uses nonsense terms like "haves" and "have nots".

A prison is intended to keep people in, whereas gated communities are to keep people out, and therefore are more like castles.

Bring back social housing to give people a chance to live rather than just exist. The idea that everyone could be a home owner was a flawed one spread to look after property prices of the people at the top.

We cannot increase wages in this global economy so we have to look at living costs.

I also hope that the Labour Party will actually do something about it if they do get in rather than use it as a slogan to try and con voters.

13 years, an illegal war and child poverty higher than when they started, I would rather let anyone else in.

We have a few forum members who have a Gated Community mentality even if they don't live in one.
Empathy that ends where the landmass does. :o

Wow! What must it be like to be them??

"A man on the beach is in serious trouble! Help! "
    "Ok! I'm coming!"

"He's in the sea now! Help!"
    "Ah........Not my problem."

To be fair, they have been a bit quiet recently.

That's because the major parties all support an economic system that requires major reforms while they pretend that there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it. This is why so many people have given up on politicians and elections. What's the point when they all intend to do much the same things?

They're like unimaginative middle managers who can just about keep the company from collapsing, but don't have the vision, willpower, incentive or ability to restructure it and make it thrive again.

    True.

But you could have typed that in the 60s or 70s and it would have been true for those times.

Becomes more obvious by the decade though. The number of people saying things need to change, and not just 'the usual suspects', grows every decade too.
