ITV has announced that new period mystery drama Grantchester will begin on Monday 6 October at 9pm.
Happy Valley actor James Norton will star alongside Robson Green for the six-part series, which is set in 1950s Cambridgeshire.
Adapted from the novel, Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death by James Runcie, the series is written for ITV by Daisy Coulam, who has previously scripted EastEnders and Casualty.

Set against the backdrop of the real hamlet of Grantchester, the drama focuses upon the life of Sidney Chambers (Norton), a charismatic, charming clergyman who turns investigative vicar when one of his parishioners dies in suspicious circumstances.
Soldier Soldier star Green plays plain-speaking, over-worked police inspector, Geordie Keating, whose methodical approach to policing complements Sidney’s more intuitive techniques of coaxing information from witnesses and suspects.

    Starts tonight. :)

I'm looking forward to watching this drama, not least because Grantchester is one of my favourite villages in the UK. It's a beautiful place.

The writer James Runcie has written an interesting article on this new drama:

Really looking forward to this. I tried reading the books that its based on but the fact the author
James Runice kept referring to the victim as being a alcoholic because he is Irish and clearly all Irish men in the 50's were alcoholics in nearly every second page of the story it turned me off a bit.
    >:(

Still I'm willing to give the TV adaptation ago.;-)

The trailers look quite good, but the only thing which puts me off from watching it is, Robson Green.

I saw him talking on a chat show just after Happy Valley had finished airing and he was saying that this was his next role. He was a true nasty bad man in Happy Valley so I'm interested to see what he's like tonight. Really looking forward to it :)

Is Robson Green very short or is James Norton very tall?

I've had a quick look at it (when I saw Raquel) but as with all programmes on non-BBC channels that I want to watch, I'm saving it on Tivo to watch later, so I can fast forward through all the adverts.

    Rachel, of course!

An hour long programme on ITV I find usually lasts around 45 minutes.

I remember on Alibi, You Tricks, which lasts about 58 minutes, was cut to 46 minutes. 12 minutes hacked off.
'Hour long' programmes on non-BBC channels are always short-changed.

I'm not usually one for murder mysteries but I'm getting into this. Everything's pointing to Morton being the killer because of an affair. So it's obviously not that. :D

I think Robson Green and James Norton work well together.
