I think people are just shocked how far she has gone downhill, Most people i know thought she was the star of the show, Would be around long term

Now she looks like someone who couldn't get a part in a school panto. She was good and now is awful. It is jarring

Some quite harsh comments are being made, don't forget that it is a 12 year old schoolgirl that these comments are being made about.

Hopefully she doesn't read Digital Spy.

She is only playing a part. A lot of kids go a bit withdrawn and sulky at that age. It's odd how some can't distinguish between acting and real life.

    Another great episode!
Ben and Pete doing the Spartacus rap was hilarious, Ben talking about being a teenager was nice,Ben is the star of this series and the camping scenes overall were much better than I thought, they really have matured Ben this series and he is coming across very realistic

Jake however is also finally coming into his own and again he had some great comic moments, loved him totally stressing out about Uni and then filling in the ucas form :D

Stacey and Sue scenes were funny.

As for Karen, like I've said she is by far the weakest character now, her convo about the British Bake Off was quite funny but she just isn't funny anymore and Jake and Ben have became so much better.

And you think that will stop people on here? I'd love to see the reaction if their child got such a thorough critical panning at school.

But Ramona Marquez is on TV so signed up to it all this of course, young child or not.

I totally agree I think the comments on Karen are harsh. But if they were on her character that's fine, but some of the comments have been very critical about the actress playing Karen, so that makes it much harsher.

People saying she isn't a very good actress isn't being too harsh is it? Surely people are allowed that opinion. Yes she is young but people are allowed to say they are not impressed

Just caught up. Great episode, particularly the scenes with Pete and Ben. Liked the moment after being all Bear Grills, Ben looks down at one of his traps and says "Can we let the bunny go?"

Insisting that Pete reads lines from Spartacus:The Musical with a lisp too. The lad's playing a blinder this series.

Most of the unfavourable comments are really about the character though, and how the writers have changed it, rather than the actress herself. That's certainly my view, as mentioned above when I said:

"...I thought Karen's best bits of the series so far were her sarcy interactions with her school 'friend' a couple of episides ago. They should do more of that." Also, the episode ending when she had a heart-to-heart with 'dad' about school, while sitting on her bed.

That's how I see it really, it's not Ramona's fault if the writers and production team have failed fully to adapt and get the best out of her, as some of the scenes have been very enjoyable and showed her potential. That could still change though in the remaining episodes, I hope so.

Bit late to the party here, just caught up on the first 2 episodes, makes a change catching up on a series while it's still been aired.

Not quite sure I buy Pete being so naïve about the fuss over filming Karen at the swimming gala, especially as he's a teacher. Slightly clumsy way for the writers to squeeze in their opinion on the subject.

I thought that was there to point out where Karen gets her stroppy intransigence from.
Just because other people don't like it and make a fuss about it doesn't mean he has to fall in line.

Agreed, although do you remember in an earlier series when he accidentally insulted a pupil and got accused of racism? So I can sort of believe that because he has good intentions/not harmful ones, he doesn't see what the problem is.

The other parent is shown to be some mad Daily-Mail type whereas his complaint is not that outrageous. Contrary to what Pete says, it is illegal under the Data Protection Act; he would have had to get permission off everybody who appears in the film, as they have not consented to being filmed.

Well the parent is a Daily Mail/tabloid reader, quoting stuff that doesn't exist, it's not illegal.
I think Karen has lost her charm and is now quite dislikable. She used to be absolutely adoreable and my favourite character in Outnumbered.

Karen was always very judgemental and inflexible. It was just that as a cute little girl we could gloss over that, as a stroppy (nearly) teen its hard to ignore.

Seconded Karen's always been like that, some people must have been blinded by her 'cuteness' not that I saw it myself particularly.
It didn't gloss over what was coming out of her mouth for me, I thought that's where the gags were.

But equally I am entitled to say that the comments are harsh. I personally wouldn't come onto a website criticising acting skills of children.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Ramona's not changed neither has Karen it's jus not cute anymore because she's not an ickle girl now

I feel that posters have been very cruel to a child actress, who may be under pressure to do something that seemed quite fun when she was a very small child, but not so much fun when she's going through the pains of puberty and early adolescence.

Personally, I think she's fine, and - not that it matters (channeling Sue here) - extremely pretty.

There was an interview with all the actors in the Radio Times when this series was launched. It presented to me that Ramona is now more interested in music than acting. I don't think her character is particularly well written but she does seem to be phoning it in a bit. She is a capable actress, she was very good in The Kings Speech.

Can't wait for Mr Burns to show up - it'll probably be the last episode with Auntie Angela - be so funny if he's her latest squeeze. :D

Well you learn something every day, even at my great age! :o

Phoning it in? Had to google that! It's a good description too, of what may have happened (if it's down to her not the writers/production). Not disputing her quality as an actress elsewhere, or her potential though.

Keep meaning to contribute to this thread and keep forgetting

I'm really enjoying it, sad it's the last ever series.

Karen has grown up dead quick in between the series. How old is the actress? I do love her new hair colour though :p Although don't remember acting like a teen at the grand age of 11 but perhaps I did lol

    Ramona Marquez is 13 tomorrow,

And don't people say that kids grow up so much faster these days? That will be why the programme introduced god-daughter Stacey; to highlight the image pressures that girls of Karen's age face these days.

I agree. His comment "are they doggers" when him and his dad were watching the meterorite shower was priceless:D

I don't think that's fair. Most of the comments have been regarding 'Karen' becoming boring and annoying, and 'Ramona' appearing to have lost interest in the part and to wish she was doing something else.

Or maybe she's acting the part of a moody pre-teen.

Loving the kids losing everything, reminds me so much of my kids at that age. Actually Karens a bit like my daughter was at that age,her sense of injustice and how she could run the school so much better. Also it's not illegal t ok leave 11 year olds at home
