I wonder how she was exposed to asbestos sufficiently to develop it.
It's very rare. I knew someone who died form it, but they had worked for years inspecting old buildings that had asbestos in them. They were exposed to it over years and years.
Maybe the guy she lived with worked with asbestos and she was exposed to fibres on his clothing or something obscure like that.
Unless there's another cause than asbestos exposure?

I wondered about that too. I live in a fifty year old flat and there is asbestos in it (in the water tank and the artex) but I've always been told that its safe as long as it's not broken. My impression is that people who are at most risk of asbestosis are ones who work with it like shipbuilders or tradespeople who might be having to break it as part of their part job, or alternatively anyone having to handle overalls or equipment that were covered with it. It's been quite tightly regulated for a long time now, but certainly they have been doing a lot of campaigning about in recent years, and I have to tell anyone like electricians, plumbers etc if they are working with with the affected areas, so they can take precautions - even if they're just drilling through it.

So no matter what happens I think the character will go away somewhere for a while.

I wouldn't have thought a bank would hand over that much cash unless the person was the account holder. Surely they would give drafts?

Everyone seems to be skint in Emmerdale at the moment, and I prefer it when we have a mix of wealthy people and less well off.
I wish Rodney was still wealthy. He was fun when he was rich.
And Nicola is funny when she's rich too.
