I thought i'd start up a main thread for the exit poll predictions and final results.

French exit polls currently showing that the National Front have topped their vote with 25%. Conservative party 2nd at around 20% and socialists with 15%.

I doubt that we're bound by those rules.

All of those are the sorts of percentages the French Communists used to obtain.

Just before they sank almost without trace. :)

Sounds like the prediction of shifts to the far right are happening.

Le pen is a very dangerous women. Her party are the French equivalent of the BNP. For example just last year the French football team was criticised by her on racial grounds. France could easily descend into riots tonight.

I don't deny that or welcome it.

25% is high but not upper 30s or low 40s.

The main message is to the mainstream left and right whose failings are the driver of that vote.

It is to leave the EU and ditch the neo-liberal economics for a fairer social democracy or one nation capitalism.

I think there - I don't know - but I would say they are recent and have not fully established themselves.

The main parties have effectively placed an X on all the far right ballot papers against themselves and everyone else. The humble voter and Marine Le Pen's outfit are just the channelling of it.

Principally it isn't about immigration per se although having hundreds of no go areas including in Carcassonne, Avignon, Arles and Nimes is thoroughly shocking and frightening and that must be of relevance.

But it is also - probably more - about it being a symbol of a national identity crisis and economic/social malaise.

Wow UKIP equivalents doing well in France and Denmark.

The Freedom Party: Led by Svend Åge Saltum, sorry I mean the Progress party (23%) are doing well in Denmark and the Front National (25%) doing well in France.

Is there any estimates for turnout in the other member countries? I'd be interested to see if any beat the UK's 36%. I'm sure there must be at least a couple out there even more disinterested than us.

I imagine most of Europe will be similar except for Belgium as it had national elections and compulsory voting.
Any other countries with national or other important elections.

Good voter turnout too at 47% - compared to 43% in 2009.

Both the BBC and Sky News are being ridiculous tonight.

At 8pm they are making no comments on the EU elections yet exit polls are all over Twitter.

Paul Mason (C4 News) even tweeted a link to an African web site with some results. He said that he cannot tweet until 9pm.

    Madness!

Syriza are an anti EU party.
I wonder how many anti EU parties will top their countries EU elections.
And how many would it take to make a difference ?

    Greece

    Syriza (Left - Anti EU)

    2009 -5%
    2012 - 17% (National)
    Now - 28%?

Leader Tsipris said that a win would mean that the Greek Government would lose its mandate and there would need to be a national election by the end of 2014.
