The Conservatives in Scotland are today discussing their future structure which includes the possibility of a name change and a split from the party in England.

I think it is a sensible move for them if they want to have a chance of governing in Scotland, and with the election next year it is exactly the right time as well.

Scotland will always be labour - they could do anything, any party could do anything they'll still vote labour.

Having said that I agree with the idea.

The One Party . Solitary Conservatives . One Con . The Irrelevant Party . Poll Tax Appreciation Party.

Surprised they havent put the Scottish tories on the endangered species list & put the MP in a zoo with all the other creatures that are under threat of extinction.

    :)

That is true but the SNP government is left of centre. Recently Scotland has always voted for Labour or SNP - both left of centre parties.

Why do the Scots no longer vote Tory? - and they used to - easy - Margaret Thatcher.

The decline of the Scottish Tory party from the heights of 1955 outright majority mostly predates Thatcher - the change from the Scottish Unionist Party to the Scottish Conservatives, the decline of Church of Scotland membership, emergence of the SNP and resurgence of the Liberals, urbanisation and so on. Even the post-Thatcher decline didn't really occur until 1997 (support remaining relatively level under Thatcher).

I had English parents but was born in Wales. I define myself (if I'm ever asked...) as an Englishman from Wales.... or just plain British! :D
