Just read a BBC news article about actress Reese Witherspoon's arrest. She apparently asked a police officer: "Do you know my name?"
I still don't understand why high-profile people, sports people or celebrities say something so clichéd. As far as I know, it's been going on since 18th century with some famous composers, poets, war heroes and politicians saying the same thing.
The question implies they should be exempt from the law or treated differently, but why? Just because they're famous? Is it an acceptable perk of fame?

I imagine the occasions when an ego-fuelled celeb quotes those immortal words when sober must be very few indeed.
However, if they were to say, "I'm kind of a big deal around here," then that's something entirely different....
