Happend whilst England played India yesterday in Birmingham. British born Asians booing Ravi Bopara and even more so Moeen Ali just because of their backgrounds of being Asian and in Ali's case louder simply because he is Muslim. One of the most shocking things i've ever seen in sport in this country Below are two great pieces reporting it for those who have no idea what i am on about. If it was white people boing any other person because of their backgrounds it would be all over the press and rightly so yet this isn't making much of a splash outside of the cricket world.
Any British Asians care to explain the booing of other british asians, and not supporting the country of your birth?? Very sad day

Of course he was right.
Nothing new methinks. IIRC (hazy memory), during the England team's tour of the W.I. in 1989/90, Devon Malcolm got some stick from the West Indies fans.
Nothing sinister about the louder booing of a Muslim player? Really? If it was football and someone brushed it off as passion they'd be ridiculed!!!
Said British Asian anyway
Samir Nasri gets booed every time he plays against Arsenal, he's muslim
He doesn't get booed because he's a muslim.
But then you already knew that.
Surely it was because he is of Pakistani background, rather than being a muslim? I'm fairly sure India have had quite a few Muslim players over the years.
OP gave two players who were being booed and one of them isn't Muslim. Is this about Muslims being booed or not?
It's about muslims being booed because they are muslim.
Except when they're Sikh
It wasn't because he is a Muslim though, India themselves have had many Muslim players in their team. For example, Mohammad Azharuddin who played 99 tests and even captained the team.
I don't think there's a lack of integration in Birmingham personally
And Kevin Petersen when he returned home to South Africa.
There will have been people at Edgbaston yesterday from all over England, one of the Sky commentators was saying he was amazed at the number of Indian flags on cars as he came up the M40 from London. Birmingham's central location makes it an ideal location for sporting events.
I'm sure the booing was just banter, you'd have got the same if England were playing Pakistan, except it would have been Bopara who would have had the louder boos.
Shouldn't they be English cricket fans by now? Many of them are third or fourth generation immigrants, ffs.
Sport doesn't really work like that though, I support the same football team my dad supports, he supported his dad's team etc.
Oh god it's this one
To answer your question....No, no they shouldn't
Yet third or fourth gen Anglo-Aussies would (and do) get kudos if they support England.
Funny how that attitude changes with the colour of skin.
Do they?? Where? Certainly not in Australia.
And references to Devon Malcolm/KP etc are missing the point - they were both born abroad but ended up playing for England due to emigration (or in KP's case, ego).
Whereas Moeen Ali was born in Birmingham. And he is being booed for playing for the country of his birth, by other people who were born here.
Seems like 'British Asians' can be either British or Asian, depending on what suits them best at the time.
Really? No seriously really?
