Bt broadband line only

Is it possible to reduce the cost of bt phone bills by only using the line for broadband? I'm with bt, Internet is £16 a month, but the bill usually comes to about £50 a month by the time calls are added, so I'm wondering if its possible to use it for Internet only, and just use a mobile phone for calls. Or what about altering the line to incoming calls only, will that work as I'm told its cheaper?

Not sure if you are on BT BB as well, you could just not use the phone on it, so theres no call charges, or if you can, switch to the lowest phone package (unlimited weekend calls, if you're not already on that one), and then you'll only be paying £16 for the line, however much your BB is, and £0 in call charges.

Yes.I have BT broadband with free weekend calls
The only time I use BT for calls is at weekends when they're free. During the week I use 1899 or 18185 who charge 5p connection fee and the call is free( no matter how long and no re-dialling after 60 minutes)

I have never heard of those before, are they legit? How exactly do they work, I mean how can they charge so much less than BT do? As they both seem pretty similar, which is the best of the two?

If you make a lot of calls its worth paying extra for 'free calls' , I use it on Sky for international calls (or rather my wife does !!). I know Talktalk does similar but I don't know about BT.

    My latest Sky bill.

All BT line rental comes with some free calls , free weekend calls, 0870,0845 or a paid for anytime call plan, it depends on what the cost of your calls to landline numbers out of your total bill if changing to an anytime call plan will save you money, if the calls are less than £7 ( the approx call plan cost) then it's probably not worth it, more than that and it may be..
you could get your line rental down by paying for a year in advance, line rental saver is like 12 months for the price of 10
Paying for line rental in advance for the year and anytime calls is about £21/month ( or the equivilent of), then the only extra call charges would be to mobiles and 'premium' rate numbers
£34 / month seems a lot for line rental and calls, you should be able to reduce this easily,

We have TalkTalk Fibre 40/2 and no call package. At the moment the monthly bill is £28. I can't stop people from using the house phone, but as the Wife and I get unlimited mobile minutes it's never used. If it wasn't for the odd family member still calling the landline number, I'd unplug it.
