I've just seen Magic Mike, and Matt Bomer is in it.
There is a particular seen where I think he really shows he'd be perfect to play Christian. No doubt.

Matthew McConaughey. That's who I pictured when I had the misfortune of reading those books.

I won't be watching it though.

HOW can they make it into a film?! It's basically porn .Rubbish porn ? how they can release it to a normal cinema audience?! I don't understand!

It's worst book I've ever read ( no mean feat ! ).I shall shamelessly plug my blog post about it!

I don't know how they can make a good movie out of this given the source material is pretty lame. I hope they don't keep a single bit of the dialogue!

Can you imagine the script if they did?! Dreadful.

Yep I don't quite understand it. The book is terrible and basically loads of shagging and variations on S&M according to my sister (boy, that was an awkward conversation) and she doesn't see how a proper film would work either.

Unless they just went all the way and made a soft-porn film out of it. Which would at least work in its own way I guess.

These books were my first erotic novels (I normally stick to horror) :D and I have to say I loved them, Yes there were not very well written in places and I was surprised to see they were written by a woman in her 40's, they sometimes read like they had come from someone without much experience in both writing and sex lol.

There was just something compelling about them though and unintentionally or not they were funny, I had to keep reading to see what happened and despite the dialogue Greys character was quite well written I thought.

Change the dialogue a bit and take out some of the sex scenes it could quite easily be turned into a film, It will most likely turn out to be something like The Secretary. No idea who could play him though, it will end up being some pretty boy though.

He should remain a man of mystery. Seen from behind, back of the head, chest down, that sort of thing. As soon as his face is shown the illusion collapses.

I enjoyed reading these books and dismiss those who say it is drivel, no one said it was meant to be a literary masterpiece.

I don't think Matt Bomer is a candidate for Christian, the fact he is gay in real life would spoil it for me.

Henry Cavill would be my choice for "Christian" so far and his "Ana" would be Kaya Scodelario.

It's called acting, him being an actor an' all. Or perhaps you think only real doctors can play doctors, or real firemen play firemen?

I didn't say he couldn't play it, I said it would spoil it for ME.... I thought this was a discussion about who would be suitable to act as Christian, not a forum to make personal sarcastic comments !!

Actors playing doctors don't get to treat treat real heart attacks, actors playing firemen don't go into unknown situations and fight out of control fires. What actors are meant to do for real is exhibit real emotion. And in this kind of film there might be some real physicallity, however much or little.

I'm struggling to see how this can be made into a movie really as well. I mean the book is porn. Nothing happens accept graphic sex. How can that translate to the movie screen without being banned?

If they tone it down then it loses what made it so great in the first place.

Twaddle. Actors are meant to act, whatever is asked for, nothing more, nothing less.

No one is judging her writing against masterpieces, that much is for sure. But there are certain features about her writing which imho fail even the most basic of writing standards. For example, her constant and repetitive use of the word 'flushed' or 'flush'. If there were a drinking game based around that word in this book, A&E would be a very busy place. A simple look in a thesaurus would solve that problem. It's not too much to ask. You don't have to be JK Rowling to know using the same word over and over and over again is slightly annoying for the reader.

I remember watching a stage play by Tom Stoppard in which one of the characters explains about how sometimes when you're playing cricket the ball, when it hits the bat instead of making a nice clicking noise and whizzing off over the boundary makes a dull clunking sound drops to the floor at your feet and sends an unpleasant vibration up through the handle of the bat. The character then went on to explain that certain pop songs of the day were clunkers, not clickers. There was no particular explaining why, they just were. I think 50 Shades of Grey, and its two follow ups, are just clunkers and that's all there is to it.
