    Afternoon Elfy :D

Apart from wanting the rain to stop I am good thanks. What exciting things are you up to today?

Hello Flora, nothing really exciting today, which is good :D. I am exhausted from the giants, poetry concert & business meeting over the past few days. I'm tempted to go and try your o/h's technique to get attention in Currys though :D.

    How about you? Anything planned?

We went to a poetry event last night and after CL's "creative discussion" with the sat nav we missed the start.
Elfy has a terrible phobia about
anything to do with nose stuff
and unfortunately someone in the audience asked the poet to recite his most famous poem again for "those who missed it" You can guess the subject.
Poor Elfy turned white as a sheet and sweat was pouring off him and as the punchline of
    SNOT
was shouted triumphantly he started making retching noises. It was like a really bad comedy sketch. :D:D:D

I had already instructed him to look for something that wasnt going to overpower the room in terms of looking out of proportion with everything else as I certainly dont want it as the main feature, so he was following my instructions :D
Oh I see, thought you wanted a big TV.

Ours are on the Chimney breast now, used to be on a massive stand in the corner, I'm not interested if it's in proportion or not, i wanted the biggest i could afford,

    In proportion to what.
    A chair, a table, a book, a vase, a Skybox.
If it fits in the room and you can get past it then it's ok.:D

There's pictures of how mine used to be on my website.
Not how it is on the wall though, but it saves so much room now.

I prefer walking into a nicely furnished living room as opposed to the front stalls of the cinema :D

    Morning Flora, morning everyone.

It's a shame because it was a reasonable idea for Ant & Dec to take those parts, but it so din't work - I do love them though:cool:

I do too. But I also enjoy Stephen Mulhern.

I was disappointed with Paul Merton's role in the Tony Hancock things.

We have had a power cut since just before 7.30 this morning....bloomin' 10+ hours. I rushed back from Athens and needn't have bothered as I have had to sit reading outside for ages, worrying about the contents of the fridge and freezers...

There was nothing about it on the local telegraph poles so it may have been a fault....:(

I really dislike large flat screen T.V.s and the way they take over a room. Thankfully, so does OH....

Freezers will be ok as long as you don't open them.
Same with the fridge really, but you usually have to open them.
And also with the fridge & Freezer the fuller it is the better as it holds the temperature.

They don't take over a room if you put them on the chimney breast, the same as a mirrow, and the new TV's are only as thick as a **** packet, it's like having a live painting on the wall.:D

With respect Hicky, I have seen the photographs of yours and it is not for me, we just have different taste.:)

Fortunately the fridge and freezers are packed at the moment in readiness for the Running Club AGM next Sunday so nothing seems to have suffered...

The slim tvs sometimes come with giant plugs and scart sockets which defeat the object, and sometimes people have the wires on show if it is on the wall which also seems daft.

LOL Oddly enough, I do vaguely remember the episode, but in no detail and certainly not the punchline. Thanks.
    whats the exhibition about:)
It is of his latest watercolour landscapes and some portraits with strong use of blue. The exhibition is called "eclectic blue".

Phew.. IT have managed to find everything, somehow it had backed itself up into her school log-in area (whatever that means) so everything is there but in the wrong place. We will reinstate it all later and back everything up onto her hard drive tonight.
To say I am relieved is an understatement....:)
O thank heavens, what an anxious time. So glad it is all found.

I have games consoles plugged into mine (which is what it's mostly used for) so the flat aspect is rather pointless as there are wires coming out of nearly every hole which means I can't even have it against the wall.

You feel the same way re boobs. :p

What happens if you don't have a chimney breast? Not everyone wants their sitting-room dominated by a bloody big screen anyway. :p

When you put the TV on the Chimney Breast you put a wood frame/shelf in the fire place, behind the TV you put a hole through into the chomney, you put a hole through from the side of the breast into the fire place an put a pipe in.
You fit a TV bracket onto the chimney breast having all ready dropped the wires through to the fire place, you put a 4 way multiplug in the fireplace under a shelf, this lets you plug in the Skybox or Humax box, all you see is the front of the box.

I bought extension cables to extend the Dish wiring, from B&Q.
You don't see any wires down the wall, in fact its a lot neater than when it's on a stand.

Whatever you have doesn't matter if you have a chimney breast, my lad has his 42" on the wall and the games console every thing.

Me too, it's probably a case of 'don't mess with the Master' in both these productions, they can't be bettered.

I know a lot of people like them wallmounted, I don't know if it's a generational thing but it reminds me of a hospital or institution where they all sit round and stare at the mamoth on the wall:rolleyes: Either enormous on the floor or wall mounted, not for me either.

Is that what the large zip down the middle of the page is all about? I wondered this morning if it was just my PC, then forgot and didn't think to mention it!

We're gong to seee Dara O'Briain tonight - couldn't get the seats we normally have so I hope they'll be OK.

Still cold here, I went to a meeting this afternoon in a room wich was so cold my hands felt as though they needed gloves every time I tried to write something down! I thought of you Arte with your hot water bottle :D

We used to have gas fires with imitation logs or coal in, but it's 2012 now and with the central heating fires aren't needed.

This is the TV on the chimney breast now, just taken it 5 minutes ago, and thats a 50", it looks small and if i had the cash it would be a lot bigger.:d

Oh yes - I am sure there are ways to do it. But I have various consoles that I use at various times (I am sure I'm not the only person) and depending on the weather I need to change from the built in freeview to an additional box.

So when half the scart sockets and areal socket is on the back and things often need changing, it makes it pointless to have the TV mounted. That combined with the wire issue as I say makes the flat aspect pointless. Of course you are encouraged to have an HD television to get the best quality for the latest consoles (it does make a difference I must admit) otherwise I wouldn't bother.

 What a palava. No wonder so many people dont fit them properly. They tend to be a bit high up too i think.
Elfy has a room without a chimney breast, and its deffo not going over the fireplaces downstairs. . :D He's only got a tiny pink one anyway so it would look ridiculous.
