Just curious. She appears to be a teacher or something here, carrying a load of books. Is this their first meeting, or a re-meeting of some kind? It's a classic first-meeting scenario, with the dropped books.
It looks as though she either starts off as a teacher or tutor in the village and then becomes a governess. Or perhaps the other way around?
That's a wrap on season 4 for me! What a roller coaster you have in store, but I'm sure you'd expect no less!!

So they pushed back the season debut to December?? I read that someplace yesterday, how annoying. I hope they do not do the same with my other face fall series "The Paradise" lol

Don't worry - Downton series 4 starts on ITV on September 22, with the Christmas special on Christmas Day.
The Paradise will be shown before Christmas, don't know any more than that.
("Rumors that Branson and baby Sybil’s new nanny would be embarking on a love affair are utterly false"
““When you see the actress, I doubt it,” said Neame. So she’s not another Edna (MyAnna Buring), the housemaid who made a pass at Branson last season? “No… We haven’t made any comments about any new characters so people are putting two and two together and coming up with…)
This quote is by a direct source, Gareth Neame. So apparently what EM said about the working-class girlfriend was not about the Nanny at all. Daisy Lewis must be playing someone else. Based on the pictures, maybe a teacher?
Given what he said about the actress, I am assuming she is much older or something? Maybe middle aged, in her 50s? Because he wouldn't say something like that about DL! It would be rather rude.
A lot of stuff. Anyway, DL is not playing the Nanny. So it's true, all that stuff was nonsense. She must be the working-class girl but not the Nanny.
Also rolling my eyes over the "Mary is just mean to Edith" line. So true. I guess after all this time she still can't get over that letter, even though it didn't stop her marrying Matthew like she wanted. But her meddling with Anthony DID prevent Edith from marrying. And yet IMO Mary is still much meaner to Edith than the other way round.
It makes me sad that they will never become close. It really is just sad, they're so emotionally dysfunctional.
I don't really care what's in that tower. In fact I never though about it before.
Not surprised that Mary is not great at mothering. He reminds her of Matthew, so she can't deal. Kind of the opposite of Tom, who named the baby Sybil and said he "wanted to remember her mother every time he looked at her." Different worlds, indeed.
Glad to hear Mary/Tom is not happening. Also Carson/Hughes.
Don't care about Bates and Anna.
I am glad Rose will continue to be a fun-loving troublemaker.

Thanks Edith has always been my favourite character in the series.
So excited Peter Egan who was in last Christmas episode is now following me on twitter. That's made my day I loved him in Ever Decreasing Circles with Penelope Wilton.;)
Could have sworn I read an article last week saying the show was being delayed until Dec. to allow less time for USA to steal it, lol...will try to find it.

No it's due to start on the 22nd Sept. The episode in Dec. is the CS shown on 25 Dec in the UK.
Looks like a big day's filming! Guess the girls had to hurry back from their press junket in LA.

Massive day on Downton Abbey today; three camera crews, crane, period cars & extras, amazing costumes and vast set.... truly stunning.

Maybe they should just move the US premiere of it forward, so to avoid spoilers
I know quite a few american fans who were spoiled accidentally about Sybil's and Matthew's death ages before the americans saw it
My brother in law and his wife who live across the pond had no idea Sybil and Matthew were leaving the show and how. I guess they don't go looking for spoilers and I didn't tell them other than before the two episodes with S & M to keep the tissues handy.
It looks as though they're filming in "The Mall" just outside of Buckingham Palace. This must have the tourists gawking. http://instagram.com/p/c3f6BUjLDb/
I think you might want to watch both CS's starting with 2011 followed by 2012 before your watch S4 in Sept. especially if you don't know what happens.
Thanks to you Zipgoesamillion and the previous poster. If they are repeatin the Xmas specials I'll look at them too so - I just wasn't going to buy the DVDs haha.
I presume they are going to be on every weekday for 5 weeks - 5 a week - in the lead up to S4

I had already seen a video interview with MD in LA, who had said they were using twins. If one cries they can change them over, although I wouldn't have thought the twins would grow as rapidly as the series covers around 18 months or so.

What is is that is repeated on ITV3 starting next week is it Series 3.
Also how many Xmas specials where there? I have the 2012 one recorded, but wondering if there was one before that ?
Thanks
There was a special - Christmas at Downton Abbey, that was aired in 2011 and was set at Christmas unlike last year's Christmas special.
Cheers. All I'm missing is Episode 3. I'm reliably informed that the Christmas specials didn't alter plots so it doesn't matter if I miss them?
No! The Christmas specials contain two or three of the most important plot turning points in the series. You must see them. Basically, it's:
As mentioned, ITV repeating all 25 episodes from Monday 19th August so you can catch any episodes you're missing.

Edith may well have the most interesting storylines in series 4...
