iPhone photos to use in a Word document

Hi guys, I'm hoping you can help. I have a Microsoft Word document that I'd like to add some photos which were taken on an iPhone. I understand that iPhone photos are not JPEG, but do they need converting before they can be put within the text of a Word Doc for display after that document has been emailed to a friends (who have Different old/new versions of Word)

Does Word convert it automatically ? (My Word version is particularly old, I think maybe Word 2000) or if I need to convert it to a more widely used and readable format, what would that format be, and is there a popular conversion programme ?

Many thanks for your help !

Paul

I have an iPhone 4 and the photos it creates are normal .JPG format which is fine for inclusion in Word documents. The only thing you might need to do is reduce the picture size using something like Paint.NET before inserting them, but only to keep the Word file size to a reasonably low figure for e-mailing.
