Oxford City police is a different force from Thames Valley Police.

At least it was, I have a feeling it changed fairly recently.

Oxford City Police was separate from the Oxfordshire Constabulary but both were amalgamated into Thames Valley Police in 1968.

Did anyone else think his glasses looked as if they had a modern anti-reflective coating?

Loving this series... Shaun Evans continues to do justice to John Thaw's memory without ever parodying him. The filming is glorious, the music is right.. I don't really careif there are some plot holes too much, It's just nice to settle back on a Sunday night and watch something classy.

This is TV drama at its most sublime. I've been looking forward to it all week. I was referring to Anton Lesser (had to google him LOL). Only one more episode to go. Excellent series.

I wasn't as 'gripped' this week as I have been with the other episodes.

Had the series on auto record, and watched ep2 tonight. I have now given up, as this seems to have moved towards Sherlock rather than Morse/Lewis. Silly plots.

Ah right, so it's correct for 1965 then. I think Oxford City is a subdivision of TVP then, I know I've seen it on signs at the St Aldates police station. In the books Morse worked out of Kidlington which is the HQ of TVP.

The slightly jarring thing for me - and it is just a minor pedantic niggle - is how young Morse has a rather colloquial way of speaking at times, whereas older Morse was always very careful to follow the grammar of standard English

I enjoyed this, but I can't remember "Health and Safety" as a term being used in the sixties. There wasn't that much of it about.

I was surprised when he said he had bought cinema tickets to use later on - I would have thought they would just pay on the door in those days?

He corrected the language on the sign but didn't correct his colleague when he said 'invite' rather than 'invitation'. Another minor pedantic point. :D

Not as good as last week's episode, but not bad. Unlucky in love yet again. I'm surprised that he never gave up!

Would the people in the Oxford area been able to watch the TV coverage of the Coronation in 1953? The two closest transmitters were Alexandra Palace or Sutton Coldfield, both quite a distance away. Oxford didn't get its own transmitter till 1965.

Between Foyle's War & Endeavour, ITV have really cranked up the sophistication/quality of their drama over the last few weeks. No doubt it will be business as usual after Endeavour finishes its run ... back to 'Downton Abbey/Broadchurch' quality

Great cast, though. Martin Jarvis and Jenny Seagrove I always love watching!

I quite enjoyed Broadchurch - though it was too long and I fast forwarded through a lot of it!
    Never took to Downton Abbey.

Obviously I love Foyle's War and Endeavour. Just sorry Lewis has finished.

Somebody in today's Sunday Times pointed out another small error from a past episode. This was when somebody presented a ten shilling note at the post office and got a ten shilling postal order. That would not have been possible. You had to pay a "poundage" of a few pence on top of the face value of the order.

Thanks for that. I'd forgotten that they say Thames Valley in both Morse and Lewis.

I read somewhere that 'Lewis' wasn't allowed to use the Thames Valley Police name (something about copyright I think, even though 'Morse' used it). Therefore for that series they used the generic 'Oxfordshire Police' name. Even if TVP had been in existence in the early 60s they would have had to change the name for Endeavour'.

I wonder if smaller independent or specialist cinemas would be different from the chains. I presume a Bergman film (they just had to put in the Casablanca joke) wouldn't be in a large chain cinema.

Today there was an advert for a new itv detective series. It looked like a forensic based series set in WWII - a sort of Foyle meets CSI.

If Endeavour continues with this quality, I'll actually be quite pleased that Lewis has ended. Lewis was very much centred around the colleges to the detriment of anywhere else in Oxford/Oxfordshire. Endeavour has ventured beyond the boundaries more often, more like Morse used to be. I never thought that I would, but I prefer Endeavour to Lewis.

I was sceptical about the whole idea of a prequal, so I never watched the one-off original. But I've really got into the series.

Although as others have said, the stories are a different style to the Morse ones, in the way he solves them. Morse was more of a plodder. I'm enjoying it, though.
