I was more of a casual fan but I always loved a lot of their songs especially:

This Is How It Feels: http://youtu.be/J-fX0UbpZls
Saturn 5: http://youtu.be/03cy86u6Wi4
She Comes In The Fall: http://youtu.be/l2nPHbogLE0
Dragging Me Down: http://youtu.be/Nt4SNfcd72s
Two Worlds Collide: http://youtu.be/csxBQLG4-3Q
Move: http://youtu.be/75ENlCgERcQ

Lead singer Tom Hingley is still making music and touring. I saw him perform a week ago and he still belts out the old Inspirals stuff along with a few solo tracks.

He's on Facebook and Twitter, it's strange to be chatting via Facebook to a guy you've admired for years and always wanted to see. :) Tom has made 4 solo CD's and if you get in touch with him via FB or Twitter he'll send them to you at a fiver a go.

There's 5 solo tracks on his Reverb Nation page, I Was Wrong is great, very Inspiralish: http://www.reverbnation.com/tomhingley

You're not alone! This Is How It Feels has always been one of my 'go to' songs whenever i'm in the mood for real quality songs and any band that can list a certain Noel Gallagher as a former roadie is fine by me!

I'm currently listening to one of the four CD's Tom sent me, it's called Soul Fire from 2001 - it's bloody brilliant! I haven't heard a song I don't like yet.

It's annoying that artists like Tom aren't in the charts when Tinchy Stryder and N Dubz are.

One of the other CD's is called Too Much Texas and is an album of early Inspirals stuff.

I borrowed my dad's Best Of.. a few years ago - not expecting much- and ended up 'borrowing' it permanently. :o
Great wee pop songs, love the organ sound and the lead singer has an excellent voice.
I Want You with Mark E is particularly immense!
Not seen that CD for a couple of years, am gonna have to get a replacement copy now!

Were they big at the time?
I only ever really hear about The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays etc from that period, it's a shame they get overlooked.

You're not alone, I wasn't a 'proper' fan as such, but I bought their records and liked loads of their stuff.

Yes, they were on par with The Happy Mondays. :)

I think the reason they get a bit overlooked these days is because Tom Hingley isn't a wildman like Sean Ryder or Ian Brown. ;)

'Saturn 5' is one of my faves from them. Love that song. :D Also love 'Dragging Me Down', 'This is How It Feels' which is a sad song with impacting lyrics  , and 'She Comes in The Fall'. I need to give their 'Greatest Hits' another spin as I admit to concentrating on the other songs I've mentioned too much. :o

Do like the feel to their overall sound. :)

If you like them keep an eye on Tom Hingley's Facebook page as he's always touring and does all the Inspiral classics.

An absolutely brilliant band I've been lucky enough to see on quite a few occasions over the last 20 years or so.

I think they were very underrated. Tom had easily the best voice of all the Madchester acts at the time and their songs were the most melodic. Perhaps their image and attitude sank into the background compared to the other bands around at the time. My favourite was Biggest Mountain

Liked them a lot to begin with but kind of went off them after the first album. Bought the t-shirt, though (Moo!).

They played a great set headlining Reading in 1991.

Tom just posted this on his Facebook page, it's where you can buy his solo CD's: http://tomhingleymusic.bigcartel.com/

    I highly recommend Soulfire
