Overloaded. That's exactly what it was. Yep I was hoping for a blatant tear jerker to send Lucy off but, nah, no dice. Max, Abi, Phil, Jane, Carters, Libby, Denise, and a few too many people completely and utterly inappropriately dressed. Messy episode. Dry eyes. Shame because there were a few great performances there that just cried out for great writing (like the ep when Lucy's death was announced).
How was Denise inappropriately dressed? I thought she was wearing black.

Not Denise. Denise looked well. Apologies if it read that way. I'm tired and typing on phone which rarely goes well.
Lola, Lauren, leather jackets... Sharon's skirt a little on the short side. I'd let that slide but her tights were certainly too sheer. Skirt length called for higher denier. I'm old school when it comes to funeral garb. Mammy has me that way. She was appalled to hear I planned to wear a green jacket to a funeral. The horror and disappointment on her face was hilarious. :-D
Seen the repeat. ...couldn't feel sorry for Ian tonight, after 1st telling Jane that he loved her and then when she goes he tells Denise afterwards that he loved HER!!! Please don't tell me thats the grief having a effect on him...that's Mr Beales selfishness/ self absorbed personality over and over again!
Thought Micks story line tonight would have been more intense tbh.....but good ending to the episode anyway!!!
What made me cross is that there were only two 'adults' at the interment....Billy and Masood, as far as I could see. Everyone else buzzed off after the church service.
Have to agree, why would lifts to the church not been arranged earlier. Denise would not have been left to make her own way to the church as she would have been counted as part of the family surely. I thought it was most odd that Ian left before the service had ended and didn't wait for the committal. Definitely unlike any funeral I've attended.
Yep. It's actually the inconsequential unrealistic bits that irk me more; Ian going for Max was far-fetched but I was fine with that - it's a soap after all. Got to have a bit of drama. But for some reason it's the unrealistic little things - like not arranging lifts - that bug me.
I suppose they felt they had to put that in to drive home the fact that Jane and her kith and kin have greater standing with Ian than Denise and Co but still, I wish Ee were better at subtlety and realism.

Yes, completely unrealistic. Particularly since it was an untimely death and her so young. In the real world that usually means a huge turnout. I thought it was daft enough that Libby turned the cab around but when Ian gave the committal a miss it was beyond silly.
Ben Hardy's emotional scene had me weeping like nobody's business, it was amazing. I would have liked it to be about the funeral, but i know it was 2 episodes sandwiched together, so it's fine.
I hope there's a Julia's Theme at the ending of this storyline, Lucy was such a huge character, it's fitting.

I thought the issue with the cars lay with Christian and Bobby's late arrival. Plus Libby's arrival didn't exactly seem organised. Ian wanted the funeral ASAP so with all the hurry and sudden extra guests, issue with cars was inevitable.
i thought tonight's episode was going to be good, but it has to be one of the best episodes of eastenders i have seen and i have watched from day one.
when peter said 'I'm older than her for the first time in my life', that really hit home. ben hardy is outstanding and adam woodyatt gave another superb performance. the whole cast was just brilliant.
anybody who missed this episode, whether your an eastenders fan or not, i urge you to catch it on either iplayer or on the omnibus repeat. continuing drama at its very best!
I didn't think it was brilliant, I think the Carter stuff should have not had that much focus. Ian should have been at the whole service, Jane should have turned up as normal instead of the stupid will she won't she stuff. Denise would have definitely went, same with Dot and Alfie.
One minute you see Johnny blubbing his eyes out the next he is going clubbing, I know they weren't best mates but EE have tried to make out they were good friends at least show some respect.
Max/Ian forming a friendship then being outed for a sleaze, such a soap cliche and did take away from Lucy's funeral
With the fantastic follow up from Lucy's death I haven't been able to fault EastEnders this past month. But tonight I was left feeling a bit flat. I was expecting something a bit MORE than what we got.
EastEnders had handled the grief of each character so well since Lucy's demise and I was really expecting something special from tonights episode but it never happened. The episode got too sidetracked with the Carters (who's story could've waited a day) and with Ian and Jane and Ian and Max. I thought we'd have got a beautifully scripted and filmed episode saying goodbye to a character born on the show, maybe a Julia's Theme. But as Jane was saying, it was a bit of a mess.
I'm sorry but I don't agree at all.. I thought the episode was great no faults at all. I didn't want it to.be all about lucys funeral.. i wanted other things to be going on. And that's what we got. I think it would have been boring otherwise.
I understand that they'd sandwiched two episodes together, but I feel that could've been handled better. Even with Mick's scene. They could have added a scene with Peter/Ian at graveside saying goodbye into Julia's Theme or something.
I am sick of hearing about this Julia's theme. None of the other soaps have such a thing.
Lucy was born first
7 minutes and 25 seconds…
She never let me forget that, a single second…
I'm older than her, for the first time in my life…
It feels weird
Lucy was an awesome sister
She made me feel safe…
knowing I had her in my corner
Sure my girlfriends agree
All she wanted was for me to be happy, and Dad…
and when he was ill, she was, was amazing…
That's why it's so hard, for me to imagine my life without her, it feels wrong…
feels like the centre of everything has just been ripped out
I'm gonna miss you so much Luce…
Christmases, weddings, our birthday, all that stuff, you should be there for
I'm gonna try and be strong, for you…
I'm gonna try and hold it together
Cos' thats what you would have done, you never gave up
And in a way, you will still be here
Cos you and I have always been connected
Nothings going to break that. Nothing, nothing…
And if I'm lucky enough to have kids one day
I'm gonna tell them all about their brilliant Aunty Lucy
I promise you, as long as I live, you'll never be gone
Because you're in here…
Bye.
I love you.
It was a good episode but a lot of things didn't ring true, there were people missing from the funeral who should have been there, Alfie for one, he is supposed to be Ian's best friend.
The transport arrangements were silly, Denise should have gone in the car with the family.
Peter's eulogy was second to none and it was very moving and there was plenty of drama once Ian found out about Max and Lucy.
The drama was non stop at the Carters though and they didn't hold back.
What the hell was Alfie doing with Phil? They were sworn enemies not so long ago, Alfie is about as hard as a droopy erection, a paper bag would scare Alfie!
Some of the time I felt a bit underwhelmed, but there were plenty of very good scenes, and the revelation about Shirley at the end was shocking, even though I did suspect it was her.
Now don't get me wrong-- I love my soaps and if a character Dies or is badly treated I feel involved with the story line but the Lucy Beale story just leaves me cold. Even Peters tearful speech at the funeral didn't touch me. It's only just happened and I'm sick of it already. I can be a real softy and cry my eyes out over a character but for some reason this story just isn't working for me. I won't stop watching because I am still interested in other story lines but the thought of this "whodunit" going on for months is really depressing. A bit like the Ronnie/Kat baby stealing which ended a bit sooner than was first intended because people wanted it to be resolved I hope this ends quicker PLEASE!!!
I thought it was a good episode for the most part. The highlight was Peter's speech. Incredibly well written and acted. I would have preferred for there to be less Carter stuff (and I never thought I'd say that before) as the going back and forth between the funeral service and the Vic felt a bit jarring. I was interested in both storyline strands but it was a bit too much when they were put together. The scenes leading up to the funeral were very good, as was the scene in the church when Ian was trying to hold it together when they were walking the coffin in (loved the use of sound editing there), and I thought the scene of Max laying on the floor was very striking and effective.
Things I wasn't so keen on was Nancy's unsympathetic comment about Ian when he was getting upset about the food, and Johnny skipping out of the wake to go clubbing. I thought both of those things were out of character for the Carter siblings, who are usually very considerate of other people's feelings. And although I did quite like Phil listing the places that Max could no longer go, like Walford's answer to Don Carleone, the hypocrisy of that scene just hit you with a sledge hammer.
I was also underwhelmed by the 'massive twist' we were promised, as Stan and Shirley's argument last week all but confirmed that Shirley was the one who tried to drown Mick. I honestly thought something else was going to come out.

The only Carter who went to the funeral was Johnny, and he did wear black. The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact Denise went back home, she could of stayed for Lucy, for that was wrong.
Not at all. I haven't been able to fault EastEnders since the start of build-up week to Lucy's death (which was brilliant, Hetti really came into her own) right the way through until the funeral episode. The show has been the best it's been in years!
However.
The funeral was too messy and I don't think handled properly. Ian, Jane, Alfie, Dot and Denise should all have been there! Peter's speech just about held the episode together and got you emotionally involved. The Carters shouldn't have got the last scene, or as many scenes as they did in my opinion.
It also would've been better in my opinion if the Max reveal happened AFTER Lucy's burial. Ian going back on his word that "nothing will ruin today" was disheartening. For Ian to physically shove Max whilst he's carrying his daughter on his shoulders was ridiculous! I was half expecting a Nick Cotton coffin fall and pasty hand to fall out.
I think Ian was trying to keep it all together before he snapped when he saw Max with the coffin. He was holding it in but when Max appeared boom
My cousion left my grandads wake as soon as he could so I wouldn't say Whitney was being exceptionally rude.

Yes, far too much going on, too many distractions and too much unlikely stuff like Ian not being at most of the funeral.
Plus, I'm sorry, but I feel nothing at all for Lucy. Shame. They should have spent some time building up her character before killing her off.
The Carters stuff was better than the funeral stuff.
Try as I might I just can't care about Ian's grief. Once again he made it all about him. I wasn't moved by Peter's speech but it was well acted. I felt more sympathy for Max than I did for Ian and Peter if I'm honest.
I'm intrigued at just what the hell went through Shirley's mind when she decided to drown a baby. I don't like Shirley or her involvement with the Carters but this has been fascinating and of course Stan is amazing.

In Hollyoaks, Sinead was told that she was not allowed to attend her own baby daughter's funeral >:(

You cannot be serious. Charlie was 10 times the size of stick thin Lucy.
It was an OK double episode with silly funeral scenes.
Jane turns up and Beale forgets all about the funeral.
Me to, some people moaning always , just to moan.
Try to keep it dry
