What exactly is the purpose of the appreciation forum?

I'm sure it was originally intended to create a positive atmosphere with people sharing similar views on the hm they prefer but has anyone taken a look inside them? I find them creepy with people inside fawning perhaps even obsessively over hms on a television show. They show eachother pictures from the hm's twitter or facebook accounts and comment how 'lovely they look' and even on occasion attempt to send flowers to them when they're out of the bb house.

Equally as sinister it's also a gathering place where they discuss how to conduct their pr campaigns here on the main forum to either silence the people that start threads or the people that comment negatively on their favorite hm.

Forum members are occassionally 'named and shamed' in appreciation threads for simply not liking their chosen favorite hm. If anything those appreciation threads are a detriment to the forum as they resemble more a football hooligans hideout as they 'slag off' the other team, ie the the forum and housemates that their favorite hm doesnt get along with. so you get comments like "oh did you see this awful housemate/forum member say that to (insert favorite hm here) cant stand them!!!!"

So how are those threads a good thing for the forum?
