You can bet on it...he knows that was close because after today they couldnt vote him off and he will have beaten Mary in the public vote and be near Cher too.

Wagner went exactly when Cowell wanted.

    Just like jedward last year.

I said last week he would be gone when they put him on first with no dancers.

    thats exactly what happened.

given the ratings success, its likely we will get more joke acts next year, not less.

He'll be glad of the 8 weeks of phone revenue though, from people who would never ever intend voting in the competition.

    It's win win for him.

    Cowell lost this one.

The fact is that Wagner saw off Katie---Simons big "push" for the contest so he's been badly burned by this...don't let him tell you otherwise.

Wagner going the same week as Katie is sort of like Darth Vader dying when he threw the Emperor down the shaft in Star Wars.

A moral victory for the GBP who aren't sheep and used the shows "joke" act to do for the rubbish that Cowell was trying to push on us.

To use a phrase from the younger generation "pwned Simon !!!"

Yes Charlotte, but this was awfully close and they almost didnt get away with it. Jedward was different, they werent the anti-XF candidate, Wagner was.

They had to rely on a double elimination, not single like Jedward, to get rid of him and he was probably more popular than Mary. It actually took alot to get rid of him.

i agree OP , he was probably regretting allowing Wagner through to the lives.it has backfired massively on him and he's breathing a sigh of relief, and his little speech proved that.
he's a joker who almost got caught out this time ,he could never make Wagner LESS popular than katie that was his problem.

The show is still in pieces, whether or not they put through joke acts next year. It wasn't the novelty acts that ruined it; it was the complete lack of real talent, and the obvious bias towards certain (weaker) acts, that incited people to vote for the 'joke acts'. To fix the show, they'd have to start putting through genuinely talented singers, not just get rid of the novelty acts (and I actually think they do have a place in the show as a whole).

They announced last night it was a double, it was always going to be a double because of the numbers.

They knew as soon as he was stripped of the big production and on first he was out. They did the exact same with jedward.

Cowell could have had him out week one if that was what he wanted, he didnt, wagner was there to make money, to be 'the protest vote' , just as katie was there specifically to be the hate figure/headline grabber.

Now its teh semi finals, neither are needed to hype the show any more, so they are gone.

Nothing close about it, it was exactly as they probably scripted it 8 weeks ago.

that's all very well , but they can't fix the phone votes, so i would like to know how close Cher was to Wagner/Mary.
they took no chances by putting Cher on last.

Wagner came 6th and Simon cacked himself.

Soon as I saw Wagner up first, I knew Simon feared him.

Don't make me laugh. It's more publicity for the show and a vote for Wagner is money in Simon's pocket in the same way as a vote for any of the other acts. Seriously if you don't like the show, don't watch it.

I was thinking that earlier on today.
Wagner is definitely the last of the joke acts.

YOu couldn't be more wrong. Check the newspapers. Who has been advertising the show for SImon? Simon is no fool. He knows how to make money. Expect more of the same every year that the show is on.

Simon's choice is Matt and always has been.

Katie was as much a fall guy as Wagner. She wasn't ever in the bottom two with anyone they cared about losing so saving her time and time again would ensure that sufficient anti feeling would grow for there to be two prime candidates for instance elimination, either by automatic elimination or by sing-off, on the week of the last sing-off.

    Job done.

Katie was this year's Danyl. Hated by the press, but supported by Simon. She even cut her hair and won everyone over (okay maybe not some of you on here).

It's just a carefully manipulated entertainment show, not a singing competition. Just get over it and enjoy it.

Simon's choice has always been One Direction. He has said in the past that he doesn't like the older performers because he cannot 'shape' them in the way he would like to. If Matt wins, He will make money from Matt but not nearly as much as he will from One Direction.

If that's the case then it's the only good thing to come out of Wagner being in the competition.
