My local mast was recently upgraded to DC-HSDPA. about 2 weeks back. According to the coverage checker and three customer support.

The speeds a still the same though. :/

Strange - I get >12Mbps out of my local mast (which must be DC-HSDPA to achieve that!)

I think it's just very congested.

This is in Telford during the day, bare in mind that Telford is not yet an official DC-HSDPA area http://www.speedtest.net/iphone/518858384.png

    Well it is a DC-HSPA+ area :D

No other way you can get over 21Mbps.

    Three/EE already have 85% DC-HSPA+ coverage.

Do you know the maximum download speed of Samsung Galaxy S3 (non LTE version) on Three?

The reason I am asking is the sales person in Three Shop did speedtest with her own Galaxy S3 to prove Galaxy S3 can only download up to 6mbps and got only about 3.5mbps down to prove that S4 will be faster than S3.

    I guess S4 will be faster than S3 but what I don't understand is how S3 can download only up to 6Mbps when tech speec clearly states the following;

Speed HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps

I am sure her phone is more capable than she thinks :D

It can support up to 21mbps. In real life you'll probably see a max of 15mbps. It's all down to distance from the mast, congestion etc...

So no one on 3G will get a consistent speed 24/7 as there are too many factors. For example i get around 6mbps at my friends house but 20mbps at work.

6Mb sounds about right for real world HSDPA speeds. You'd need to get HSPA+ to get faster than that really. (HSPA+ is the one with up to 21Mb speeds - real world more like 12 Mb).

The point about the S4 is that it probably will support Three's LTE bands (I haven't checked as I have no interest) and it will likely also support DC-HSPA.

Living In Pontardawe (Supposedly upgraded to DC-HSPA as of two weeks ago)

First Speed Test, Crap Speeds All Day from 9am - Midnight.

Second Speed Test at 5am when everyone is sleeping...

Third Speed Test, In Neath Where Speeds are consistent no matter what time of the day.

    http://www.speedtest.net/android/421952076.png

So after pestering Three over and over again there finally sending engineers out to the masts to find out why speeds are so slow. :-) So hopefully some improvements will be seen in the next couple of weeks.

The LTE version of the Galaxy S4 supports all current UK licenced LTE frequencies and also DC-HSDPA. The UK verson of the iPhone 5 only supports 1800MHz LTE currently.

Same here. Even the ping is much better.

Can't wait for a good deal on fibre optic when i upgrade in a couple of months.

I live rurally which is why i am surprised 3 even upgraded my mast!

my BB is about 14mb so yeah on a good day my phone connection can be 10mb higher. madness.

This is why I am not fussed about LTE or paying through the nose for it like EE customers.

On ipad mini in Northallerton -about 600m from my house

    http://www.speedtest.net/iphone/518901269.png

But then about 400m from my house

    http://www.speedtest.net/iphone/518901645.png

So, I'm just outside the ultrafast area- normally get about 3mbps in home- wish there was a way to force the connection to the ultrafast mast!

My local mast is very rural but has been DC'd. I believe it's still on microwave backhaul though and it covers a vast area so most of the time it does 8-12Mbps. If you catch it just right though it does 22!

Get between 6 and 10 in work. Considering its one of the tallest buildings in St Albans and I can see at least 3 masts from my window I would have hoped for more.

That is not always a good thing as you'll be getting a lot of interference which will cause slower speeds.

If you are on a tall building the cells are broadcasting their peak power at roof level, not high up.

Also, as somebody else has pointed out, due to cells working like a honeycomb with cells further away being on the same frequency you'll let a lot of signal noise from cells further away.

With 3G you're only every connected to 1 cell site at a time. A lot of people misunderstand DC-HSPA, it doesn't mean you're connected to multiple cell sites.

You want more than 30mbps....

I'd be happy with a constant 5mbps at home! (talk talk)

This was in Milton Keynes Welcome break services on the motorway. went to Birmingham and back to London and held a good connection pretty much for a lot of the journey. Three really have upped their game with their download speeds and great pings too.

Your post adds no value to a thread about speeds on Three and where my post was part of a discussion about the S3 vs. the S4 on Three.

Yes I was - Im about 4 floors up. Get better speeds at ground level.

I realise you are only ever connected to one mast. I couldn't see DC working very well if you were relying on getting good signal from two masts.

I'm apparently within range of 3 O2 masts at work but I've only ever seen 6Mbs DL max on my Nexus 4... just putting things into perspective, you lucky buggers!
