They shouldn't be buzzing around at any time of year. But, yeah, you must have some rotting meat hanging around - probably offal. Urgh, can't stand flies!

Surley if they all died there would be none at all next year. Your house is warm enough for it to survive

So, is this a normal occurrence in your house in summer, for instance? Foul.

Do you have a pet? Litter trays and bowls of food attract flies although at this time of the year they've normally died off.

There was a fly in my flat last night, probably due to getting the litter tray out and keeping the cats in re: fireworks.

Fortunately, I don't kill spiders and said fly is currently marinating in the spider's web. :D

i remember putting some chicken out to defrost in the summer -- i popped out to the shops and within half an hour the kitchen was full of flies, about 100 of them.

i was scared to death , they must of smelled blood or something.

Oddly enough I saw a Greenbottle (are they called that) in my place last night and wondered where it had come from.

I had assumed that they'd all gone away for the winter.

I'll try to let it out later if it's still around.

In defence of the OP, the back of my bungalow is south facing, sheltered and if there's any sun going it gets really hot. The PVCu window frames and brick walls get warm to the touch. Although there's only been a bit of sun today, there are several bluebottles clinging to the walls by the back door and lurking with intent on the window frames.

If I opened the windows too wide or if I was going in and out of the back door, and not closing it behind me, the flies would be straight in and buzzing all over the place. During the summer months (although not much this year) there's loads of the buggers queuing up to get into my home and give me hell.

If I could be bothered, I suppose I could buy fly curtains to put on the doors or screens to put on the inside of the windows.
