  Our local Tesco had the 12GB model (assume that's just flash memory) for £140 last week which was pretty good

  Wondered this myself since my brother was looking to pick one up. Just had a look on HDUK and saw the 12GB for £139 at Argos. Vanillaplay had a price round-up and the best bundle looks to be £254 for PS3 Super Slim 500GB Console with Playstation Plus subscription and a choice of game.
  
  Anyone else seen better?

  I'd say wait until the january sales, it anything the deals you are seeing now will still be there at the least with the potential for much better ones

  I was thinking the same around the Vita. Was going to buy one but figured it might be best to wait until January.

  Well one of the reasons i am looking at a playstation3 is because i was reading that if you buy a playstation3 game you get the vita version of the game free.

  ...you SOMETIMES get the Vita version free. Not always.

  With the ps3, as well as games, bluray, upscaled DVD playback etc, you can also slip in a 1tb HDD (user replaceable - very easy to do so) and along with Play TV which like the bluray drive, will upscale freeview sd images - (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0017UV0UG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B0017UV0UG&linkCode=as2&tag=mysp085-21 ) you're able to turn the ps3 into a 1tb freeview PVR - although, you can't get Freeview HD presently.
  
  A HDD like this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005DVJJWQ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B005DVJJWQ&linkCode=as2&tag=mysp085-21 would be spot on! Note as well, play tv Upscaled the sd image - certainly the best freeview sd image I've ever seen.
  
  Oh, and you can get a remote to control the ps3 and TV too with the v2.0 remote control (around £18 from amazon on import - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0050SX9I2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B0050SX9I2&linkCode=as2&tag=mysp085-21 )
