Should I open the box ?
bsw

I've recently bought a 2nd Foxsat-HDR for my holiday home - no I haven't just retired from a bank, it was all earned the hard way - and I've found that it is not recieving anything from the 2nd LNB input. I know the problem isn't with the feeds because the 1st box works perfectly.

I got the 2nd box from Comet on-line and they have told me to take it to one of their stores, a round trip of about 50 miles which I don't want to make, where they will test it and either swap it or do a refund. Since none of the stores around me are showing any stock I might get a refund.

When I told them that because I'd bought it on-line I expected them to swap it by the same method they had used to deliver it they said they would only do that if I can get Humax to authorise it and give me a number. I shall try that tomorrow but in the mean time I wondered whether it would be worth taking the lid off the box and having a look if there is anything obviously wrong.

Perhaps those who have already had their boxes in bits (or Bob) could advise.

Thanks

Take the money! (I was very young when that was on )

However before rushing back to Comet, what happens if, with box #2 you swap the LNB 1 and 2 over and do a factory reset?

That was my instant thought as well

Yes, it sounds like it may have been set up on just one LNB feed.

The OP is certainly under no obligation to take it to a store, he could simply return it via post to where he bought it from - which would be the usual method for on-line warranty claims.

Blimey! It seems I'm not the oldest guy on this forum, I really didn't expect anyone to pick up on that phrase. I don't suppose you remember " Have a go" with Wilfred Pickles on the radio. " Give him the money, Mabel" was the catch phrase from that show.

Back to the matter in hand. The 2nd box was actually installed at my main home in place of the original fully working box which was taken to the holiday home (simply because there were things on it we wanted to watch). So it wasn't intentionally installed on a single feed. What I have done since realising I had a problem is to remove both feeds and then re-connect each in turn to LNB1 and check the reception and then to LNB2 in turn and check the reception. This suggests that both feeds are equally good and both work on LNB1 but neither work on LNB2.

I suppose it is possible that I had not made a good connection on LNB2 when installing the box so I could try a reset if you think it might help.

If you play back your older "freerad" recordings I think you will find it was
" Give him the money, Barney"
I think Mabel was Mrs Pickles. Barney was his bagman.

Any advance on being silenced by your Dad to hear Neville saying...."I have this piece of paper !"
Funny how no stole that particular catchphrase !

I recently had some erratic pictures & transient Bad Signal messages.
I found that after switching between $ly+ & Foxy+ that I hadnt fully pushed on the connector onto Foxy+ #1. Proper re- fitting was followed by no more such probs. It doesn't take of a bad connection!

Hello SWIZZ, we (me and the Boss) are certain that it was "Give him/her the money, Mabel". Mabel was indeed Mrs Pickles, Barney was Barney Coleham who was in charge of the music / band. I'm not old enough to have heard Neville but I do remember Harold and "the pound in your pocket". No doubt Alastair or Gordon will be feeding us similar rubbish any time soon.

Now the good news. I've done a factory reset and it's now working perfectly. It looks as if I was a bit sloppy when I first connected it up. I still think it's abit odd that it didn't recognise the connection when I re-made it properly but there you go.

I must thank & pay tribute to the guys who are on here daily solving peoples problems. They obviously really understand the underlying technology and have infinite patience. I'm really grateful that they have solved my problem. I really wasn't looking forward to arguing with Comet. Thanks Nigel & germanycalling.

G'morning bsw
It seems that we were both right !
I must have stopped listening before you 2 & my "Boss" had started.
Glad none of the 4 of us were suffering organic RAM corruption.

You even got your PVR sorted.

Now where did I leave my car keys?

Whatever turns you on !
I was thinking more of spiral bound papyrus that was encoded by persons with fantastic manual dexterity.
The cylinders were waxed rather than wax, & they were not precisely cylindrical.

We are in danger of getting too technical.
