I'd choose Greenhalghs or Sayers over Greggs every time.

Gorgeous pies..

I love their tuna salad baguette. Or their chicken mango sandwich. With a vanilla slice.

Mmmmmmm I love gregs

I saw a Sayers in Liverpool, weird because I thought it was a different name for greggs, they use the same colours and branding as greggs.

Anyway I like the cheese pasties and steak bakes.

The best place here is Galloways, they make the best pies and pasties Ive ever had.

I love their wholemeal cheese and salad sarnie - I can't make one fresher myself. Must be something in the mayo as they never taste that good if I make them at home?

I also like the sausage rolls (don't indulge often though) and I love their flame grilled chicken bap thingy - again it's all about the mustard mayo.

I also love their Tottenham cake - simple but delish.

I don't go often though, I'd end up the size of a house

The occasional sausage roll or bridie.

Their fudge doughnuts, yum yums, iced coconut buns and the chocolate and cream doughnuts.

I don't think I'd be able to eat any of their sandwiches as they all contain mayo don't they?

I remember in Yorkshire Greggs were called Thurstons and in the midlands something else. Now they have all changed to Greggs. The ones in London are shocking.

But when I was in the North West it was always sayers over greggs.

Agreed. You can get Greggs hot individual quiches in Wolverhampton, but I can't get them down here.

Greggs? All their food tastes like feet... complete with fungal infections.

I always preferred Crawfords (fudge donuts!) or Mathiesons (rum truffles!) over Greggs. Can't think of anything I'd rather get from Greggs... I suppose their fresh cream/jam finger donuts.

Yes, I would have to agree with this! Discovered them just as the shopping centre was closing- so they were one of the only things left in the bakery, and never looked back. They're bloody gorgeous!

I've had steak bakes but not chicken bakes?
What are the chicken bakes like please? What's inside them?

Chicken bakes or if not a steak one (it's chicken in creamy sauce by the way). I do get fed up if the pastries aren't warm though.

I also like their "bloomer" sandwiches such as Tuna Crunch, Ploughmans or the Cajun chicken one.

They look nice - what is a Whist Pie and a Lancashire pasty?

A Whist pie is just a small meat pie and a Lancashire pasty is a meat & potato pasty made in this shape:

as opposed to the side crimped Cornish shape:

I own a Subway store that is right next to a Greggs.

It's becoming quite a common pairing, they do seem to follow us around these days! It works quite well really, as the choice ultimately brings more people to both stores. We definitely have the sandwich market cornered, while Greggs definitely have the upper hand when it comes to grabbing a quick snack.

Greggs is a nasty place. Last time i had a sandwich from there the bread was hard a a rock. Much prefer Subway for a sarnie or something like the proper pasty co for a Pasty.

Thanks Rossall. I feel hungry now! Sadly I live in the South and you lot up North seem to have kept the bakery tradition alive with a lot of regional specialities.
