RDR-HXD790 dual tuners?

Hi everyone.

Does anyone know if this DVD/HDD recorder has dual freeview tuners?

I know it has analogue and freeview. But can you record one freeview channel and watch another freeview channel? How about recording two freeview channels at once?

Thanks

It only has one digital tuner, so you can only record one digital channel at a time (unlike PVR's).

I'm not aware of a dvd/HDD recorder with 2 digital tuners, but would be interested in one!!!

PVR's have two tuners, analogue DVD/HDD recorders don't, as they would require two MPEG encoders as well to convert the analogue signal to digital.

No, it does not have dual freeview tuners.

I have a Sony RDR-HXD790 myself.

It does have a double tuner with the exception being that 1 of them is an Analogue tuner and the other 1 is a Digital tuner.

And you can only record from one of the tuners at a time.

Doh, trying to find a decent PVR with dual freeview tuners, not really bothered about the DVD recorder. This sony model is currently £200 in sainsburys. All the pure PVR's seem to be rather dodgey, mostly based on Vestel units

Buy the Humax one instead, they are one of the best.

Looking at the threads on Humax and others, all pvr's seem to be a bit querky at times. From other threads it seems Humax will support their device better than most, and if a fault is found they try to rectify it quickly.

The most recommended type seems to be Topfield or Humax, with Humax the better for non technically minded (as in me!!).

Once my new tv arrives I'll need to make choice of DVD/HDD or PVR. Suspect I'm now leaning towards the Humax due to backup and OTA updates and quality of pictures.

Sony HDD/DVD seems to be best of its type, but its £245 compared to Humax at £129.

Very true. The Sony DVD/HDD Recorders are among the best of it's type with only Panasonic bettering them.

The Sony DVD/HDD Recorders are in fact rebadged Pioneer machines manufactured by Pioneer but with a Sony logo on the front. With Pioneer they always make good audio/video kit.

You can also buy Pioneer DVD/HDD Recorders but they are ultra rare to find and thus expensive.

Also, the Sony RDR-HXD790 DVD/HDD Recorder was available for as little as £150 back in late November/early December 2008. I got mine from Argos for that price and am very happy with it.
