I'm trying un-SORN a vehicle that has been off the road a few months. What is the procedure for this? Do I just apply for a tax disc or do I need to inform some sort of un-SORN department? Can it be done online?

This seems to cover it:

I have declared SORN but I now intend to use the vehicle, what can I do?

As long as the details of the registered keeper of the vehicle are correct and you have a valid electronic MOT Test Certificate/GVT Test Certificate (if applicable), you can apply for a tax disc on our website or on the telephone. If you are unable to use this service, you will need to apply for a tax disc at a licence-issuing Post Office or DVLA Local Office (as applicable for the vehicle) using the reminder or the Registration Document/Certificate together with the relevant evidence and fee.

Take you log book to the Post Office, or DVLA office.

Why?

There is no "special procedure" - just buying a new tax disc, cancels the SORN.

That's what I am saying. Take the log book to the Post Office or DVLA and buy a new tax disc, thus canceling the SORN. There is no other reason to cancel a SORN so I assume the OP knows what to do when he gets there.
