I like the remote for the humax pvr, it is easy to use with many nice features.

The remote is extremely poor design. If you hold it at the bottom like you normally would do then the mostly used buttons, numbers and playback control, are out of comfortable reach.
The playback controls are very small and not logically laid out. The IR performance it poor, not helped by the location of the IR receiver on the PVR itself. Volume control should operate the TV not the PVR so you have a consistent volume across different sources. There is no excuse for such a poor design, TiVo and Sky have both had excellent designs that are known to work for years, why start from scratch without looking at them? As with the UI, the HDR has been designed by engineers and not experts in consumer experience. |

The experience of using the box improved dramatically when I programmed my Logitech Harmony to work with it. I can only assume that people who like it must have been using something absolutely dire before. ![]() We can hope that at least some of the UI clunkiness will be removed in the long awaited update but you really need to move to a third party supplier to get a decent remote. |

I use a Harmony 885. The Humax remote is gathering dust since setup in November.

Be warned, though, that they are a pig to program. Once you do it is well worth it. It makes using the box a much more pleasant experience. Quote:

The Philips remote is easy to setup and use, you dont even need to read the manual, the remote guides you through setting it up.

I found the key settings completely blank when I logged on and had to program everything from scratch, mostly by learning from the Humax remote. Now this is achieved it has made life much easier, so it was just about worth it. |

I thought it was quite easy to get it working in 5 minutes, then tinkered for a few days getting additional options on the right buttons.
Sorry, mrmarky, I didn't mean to imply that it was difficult to get basic functionality - just that assigning the non-standard buttons takes a while. I actually have the original handy as I don't have every single function on the Harmony - just the ones I use 99.9% of the time. |

I'm not a fan of anything about the IR on the HDR. Mine's a little slow to respond, and the original remote doesn't set my world on fire at all. I have had a harmony, in fact a whole list of them, all broke. Currently running a pronto 9200, I like that.

So glad others hate this badly designed doof
![]() It is just way too long and you have to constantly move your whole hand up and down the remote to reach the buttons. All my other doofs can be held in the middle and my thumb reaches all the buttons with ease. Think someone with enormous hands must have designed this! |

Thanks. Woolynorm. |

Hi fellers, first post here :]
I've had my HDR for a few weeks now - It didn't take long for me to switch to my harmony 555 after using the supplied remote... I don't find it uncomfortable, but the button layout is no good for me; I like the number pad to be at the bottom. Also; someone at Humax seems to have forgot to put the "previous channel" button on it (unless I've gone blind). The box does respond to the command from my harmony. In general - apart from the obvious UI issues that everyone has a problem with - I think the box is a great product. Great forum too! Cheers, Andy |

Hi Andy welcome to the forum heres a workaround for your previous channel button, press the i button and then the back button. you'll have to prees the i button again to clear the i plate from the screen but it's handy if you've flicked channels and want to go back but forgot the first channel number
