Hi,

We're looking to install some flat panels in a venue which we're involved with which is a registered charity and not for profit. (I'm telling you that so you realise we've not got a lot of money!)

Is it worth buying the TV's which are made commercial use, like they have above the aisles in places like tescos? What's the benefit of them over stuff you can buy from high street retailers?

We're looking to run a DVD on the set too.

I wondered what sort of price you pay for something like a 37"-42" TV and where you can buy these from?

Thanks

what do you want them for?

a screen is just a screen, youll need something to provide a feed to it.
you also need to work out how youll mount them, ie are they being stuck to a wall, suspended from a ceiling etc

though they will be quite expensive

Misco also do flat panel displays (HD LCD TVs), and they've got quite a good reputation in both the commercial and domestic markets.

I'm sure they'd have staff available to discuss your needs and provide you with the best cost/features balance you need.

They've been good to me, helping me replace a 3yo V7 LTV30C which had popped it's clogs, free of charge.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies.

We currently need one screen which will be used to show DVD's and output from a laptop in a small meeting room. It'd also be great to use it roll adverts on the screen when the room is beeing used as a coffee shop etc.

We'll be wall mounting the one I'm talking about and I'd say a 37" would be fine for what we need.

The reason I can't be 100% clear about our needs is that we're looking to lease a new building where we'll probably look to wall mount some screens in the reception area and a coffee lounge etc.

Becuase we're moving it might be worth buying the TV on a stand so we can place it where we want in the new building. Are the other (cheaper) solutions than unicol products to mount TV's or free standing brackets?

RobAnt you mention Misco - is this misco.co.uk ? Which TV is it you're refering to?

I know my local tesco has dozens of Panasonic TV's in the aisles but we'd be happy to go for a cheaper product/brand to bring the cost down.

You help and advice is very much appreciated.

Thanks

Commercial flat panels are designed to be on and in use 24/7. If you do that to a domestic panel, the company may not honour the warranty as it's not been used domestically.

They also tend not to have built-in tuners, as these tend to be superfluous in a professional setting.

Which panels would you suggest at 32" or 37" then?

What's the best place for prices seeing as we run a registered charity?

Thanks

For our screens we use at ITN, we're using NEC 32" if memory serves.

This doesn't look a bad price:

And these are the screens we use:

Thanks.

That was a bit more than we could afford really.

What are the LG ones like at....

or this price here:

Are there any cheaper options?

Well, the LG one does specify information displays, so they're expecting it to be used commercially, so you'd be fine with that one.

'information displays' - what does this mean?

To be hoenst we don't have a lot of money at all so it's a toss up between going to comet/currys or trying to save up for a commercial unit.

The LG looks to have some speakers built in.... which would be a huge benefit in the small room we're looking at initially using it in. Will the speakers be any good?

Do you know of any chearper commercial units than the LG? Does the LG one lok any good? You're honest opinion! lol

Cheers again

why not just buy a cheapo brand from argos or tesco, if you arent using it as a home tv, then does it really matter what you get when its going to be used for 10 minutes in a meeting?

Go for the cheapest you can buy.

Well we're looking to plan for the future with our purchases as we're looking to aquire a new building in 6 months where we'll relocate the TV into the reception area where it'll be on for 8-10 hours a day.

Thanks,

The hitatchi you're refering to here is a domestic unit I'm guessing?

Just wondered whether is was a commercial or domestic unit?

Thanks

I wouldn't get obsessed about domestic versus commercial, most are probably exactly the same thing, and certainly the actual display panel itself will be.

If you expect professional quality then expect to pay professional prices, but even then it's no guarantee it's any better made.
