Panasonic DMR EZ45e : VHS > DVD recording problem
Not sure where else to turn on this, but this forum was very helpful before ...
I ordered an old VHS tape, second hand (used) from Amazon. Its a 1992 rave thing, wanted to relive some old memories. I planned to run a copy to DVD so I could actually watch it more than once and to archive it, but the Panasonic copy protection is kicking in. I have to say I'm amazed that it would know that a VHS tape of that age is copy protected - news to me! So I'm not trying anything dodgy, but I can't do the copy as I'd like to. I *do* have a special remote for this video which I used to remove the region encoding on the DVD and wondered if perhaps that might also be put to use for this kind of thing? I'm after any advice I can get on this please - would really like to put this on DVD. |

I guess I must be asking too much of an obscure one
. Oh well, just adding a quick reply to give it another nudge, just in case ...

You aren't...but it's against the forum rules to discuss what you're after.
I guess it's not *that* important - it was a £2 VHS video from 1992 that I wanted to watch on the DVD player and have on the 'pooter. If I can't get a digital copy of it without jumping through (potentially expensive) hoops, it's not worth it for the price I paid. I'm certainly not a pirate, though. Arrrrr! |

Well, you are. The price you paid for it, and the age of the tape, are irrelevant. It is a commercial video tape - it must be, else Amazon wouldn't be selling it, and commercial videotapes almost all contain Macrovision protection to prevent unauthorised (pirate) copies of it from being made. Certainly ones released in the nineties would have macrovision on them - videos released in the eighties had macrovision protection on them, so ones in the nineties certainly would have.
Only certain labels used it and CIC Video never used it ever. By the time Harry Potter came out Warner had given up using it on VHS too. Its inaccurate to say Macro was used on all tapes as it most certainly was not. However - for the OP you can search for Sonel and spend £20 and this will let you transfer your old tapes to dvd and even record Sky Box Office to dvd too. Is your tape worth £20? |
