setting up a NEW AV Reciever, advice needed
Hi Chaps
im going to be replacing my AV Amp/Reciever currently i have this one http://www.superfi.co.uk/popup.cfm?p...-rear-1200.jpg i want to get this model now i take it that its a better sounding model? http://www.superfi.co.uk/popup.cfm?p...l_2000x783.jpg a quick question the Sony i want to get has HDMI inputs on the back of it i have a Blu Ray Player, an upscaling DVD player, and SKY HD do i simply plug a hdmi cable from each of these units and plug straight into the Sony AV recievers HDMI inputs, and then take 1 hdmi cable from the output of the Sony AV to my LCD TV ??? that way i can view my blu ray, sky hd etc on my TV and were all sorted and ready to go? im not used to this, just didnt want to get it wrong i have just been using optical cable to my current Yamaha AV amp, but with this i couldnt recieve these new sound formats such as Dolby: TrueHD, Digital EX, Pro-Logic/II/IIx DTS: Master Audio, ES Discrete, Matrix 6.1/7.1, Neo:6, 96/24 |

That's right - plug all into the amp and one out to the tv. The amp will take care of the switching.
I fancy this myself and if you can actually find one in stock somewhere, please let me know. |

You will still need the optical cable from Sky HD for DD5.1 as HDMI does not carry it, only stereo. Also double check this model allows you to assign digital inputs when HDMI is connected, some Sony models don't allow this and need a firmware upgrade. |

You need good quality speakers (£200-300+) to really hear the difference too. a small satellite set on a new amp will not do much.
I'm waiting for the new Yamaha's to come out. They have taken there time to get HD format chips in smaller amps. Never liked Sony's sound- does this amp have center GEQ? - Thats a real bonus for me. |

I have a Yamaha 7:1 amplifier myself and use Co-axial leads and optical leads as well as analogue connections for my 6 DVD players, (including 2 blu-rays and 2 DVD recorders) V+, and Sky.
The amplifier works wonderfully well, but its slightly out of date cos it doesnt have HDMI connections. Can you let me know what the sound is like with HDMI connections please? I may upgrade later in the year. |
