Hi,

Anyone got any advice please.

I need to get a plasma, and was planning towards getting a Pioneer Kuro.

Just as I'm about to go ahead, Pioneer announce their discontinuation of the business and Panasonic retail availability of the 1st generation neoPDP (z1).

I know that the last Kuro's were the Rolls-Royce of displays, but do the new Panasonics keep up or exceed the last of the Pioneers?
-in display, though the wirelessHD and Viera Cast might negate such perfection if nominal difference.

If anyone could provide pro's and con's, and logically recommend either, I'd be grateful.

I of course need to make a decision, if the Kuro are still outstanding, to get them before supplies run out.

Thanks in advance.

Yours kindly,

MN

Don't be put of by Pioneer pulling out of the plasma market - they are still making the Kuro until March 2010 or until stock runs out at the warehouses.

Pioneer will still be honouring the 5yr warranties that they are offering when you buy the set from certain dealers, I think John Lewis is one of them. After that they have stated they will remain committed to customer support.

Your decision the end of the day, if you want one of the best TV's at present then I don't see why this unfortunate news should put you off - it wouldn't put me off.

Certainly at The Bristol Sound & Vision Show last month Pioneer were heavily pushing the Kuro. I still intend to get one later this year - if I've still got a job!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply Deacon.

The problem is that there's more than one consideration, but ultimately, would you or anyone have any idea if the last of the Kuro generation exceed the latest neoPDP Z1 which is due soon.

Are they that untouchable [kuro] in terms of how ahead of their time their display quality is, or is there negligible difference and Pioneer competitors catching up.

This is what they're up against: http://www.avforums.com/forums/avfor...ct-launch.html

Kind regards,

If it's a 50" Kuro then this will ultimately be made by Pioneer. I don't think any manufacturer can touch this display IMO.

For the screen sizes below it gets complicated, Pioneer passed their production over to Panasonic for all screens under 50", I have no idea if Pioneer technology was passed over to Panasonic or whether their current models use this technology or come up to Kuro standards.

I would be inclined to get a professional demo of both makes.
