Hi All,

Is there any small piece of kit, or anything I can do to equalise the volume between the programmes and the advertisments while watching TV through my sky plus box (Pace v2)?

It seems especially bad on Sky1 and on TCM and as the frequency of advertisements seems to increase, it is a pain to keep turning the volume up and down.

There is a facility on my TV (called AVL on my Wharfedale tv menu) that according to my TV manual helps with this, but in reality seems to do very little.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Thanks to all on this great forum.

bishy.

AVL is Auto Volume Limiter which only allows a certain amount of volume...however it does not compress.

The problem is very common (especially on sky channels) where one advert sounds louder than the other/ and one programme sounds louder than the other etc...

I have often wondered for years as to why channels do not use a compressor during their broadcasts as the normal/analogue channels do. FM radio stations use compressors and limiters so why not TV?

There may be a way around this if you are determined to have a go...you can use the AVL and turn the TV volume up - but run it through a seperate amplifier and speakers. It may be better than what it curently is.

AVL will only work with the volume turned up high.

Just press the mute button during adverts, like everyone else does

It's not actually 'louder', there are strict regulations concerning it, but it's more highly compressed.

Since you've got Sky+, why are you watching the adverts?

I very rarely watch live TV (exception is F1 and the odd football match). I record everything and watch it later. Solves the advert problem, and saves wasting 10 minutes for every hour of TV.
