Samsung LE37A557
Hi,
I've just bought a Samsung LE37A557 to replace my Samsung LE26R87BD. I know it isn't the highest spec tv in the world, but when I play my Xbox 360 and PS3 through it, the games look absolutely awful. The graphics are REALLY, REALLY blocky, even when I'm sitting abou 8-10 feet away, and up close they look terrible. I liken it to playing a PS2 through scart on my old 26" LCD tv. Obviously the graphics are better, but like I said, they're very blocky. The sdtv through V+ is quite nice (no worse than my old tv) and HD looks really good too. Also, I've tried playing games from my pc through it at 1900(ish)x1080 and they also look amazing. The settings on the abox and ps3 are both set to 1080p, so I can't see what's wrong. I should say that the ps3 is through hdmi and the 360 through component. Please offer me some advice! stewyd |

I don't have an Xbox but had a similar problem when connecting my PC via HDMI. The picture initially was very poor.
After going into the channel setup settings and telling the TV (LE32A557) that the HDMI port connecting my PC was a PC the picture vastly improved. I have a Wii connected via component and the picture improved once I set the component input to GAME. I think doing this by passes a lot of the TV picture processing. |

I haven't got a problem with my pc, that looks really crisp and clear at 1900x1080, which is what I was expecting the ps3/360 to look like. Even ps3 games like call of duty 5 which are output by the console at 1080p look the same (or even worse) than playing a game on my pc through my tv at a res of something like 1024x768. They are totally jagged, blocky and sort of washed-out. It doesn't even look like the resolution is correct so it's not just the fact that there may not be anti aliasing enabled on the game.
I've tried all settings on my tv, like edge enhancment and all the colour/brightness settings and it still looks terrible and my ps3 and 360 are definitely outputting at 720 or 1080, because when I press the [info] button on my tv, it says that it is 720p or 1080p depending on the game. |
