Hi Tobes

I have to confess to not being the avidest of DOI fans - is Ray the one who lost X Factor?

Yes Rebel ... he lost the series where the lovely Leona (you know, the one who could actually sing and do a key change in a song) won.

You have a go at other posters for slating other contestants and here you are doing exactly the same thing.

Ok, Leona has a stronger voice and some don't like Ray's style of singing but to suggest that Ray cannot sing is imo ridiculous.

Sour grapes? Far from it.

Sense of humour bypass operation went very well I see

Yes, I have a go at people for slating other contestant's PERSONALITIES ... my opinion is that Ray is a crap singer .. nothing about his personality there

Good for him! I might be tempted to go and see him. I never knew who he was before DOI (wasn't watching Brookie by the time he was in it and am not an XFactor viewer) but his fantastic routines have made me into a fan!

I liked Ray's dancing, but his singing definitely not my cup of T! But he works hard at whatever he does, so good luck to him in Grease.

Well I didn't say you were slating his personality but the sarcastic tone of your post was imo an unnecessary dig at Ray which appears to be at least partly due to your dislike of him personally.

Yes, he's the one that got 40% of the vote (it wasn't actually a whitewash).

Anyway...I love musical theatre and went to see Grease in London in 1993 when Danny & Sandy were played by Craig McLachlan & Debbie Gibson. It is the best show I have ever seen in the West End and is still considered to be the best stage version of Grease ever done (mind you I have seen We Will Rock You five times so some of you might question my taste ).

I had no idea it was different from the film and I've not seen it on stage since then as I've always thought I'd be disappointed, but I think I might take a risk and get tickets to see Ray play Danny!

I saw this most recent production of Grease when it first opened with Danny and Susan. It's actually really good!

I don't hide the fact I don't like him personally - but I will be the first to admit he is streets ahead of the other contestants in terms of skating ability - and I always refrain from slating his personality.

Now, if only everybody else could show the same level of restraint, these boards would be a much happier place

I saw Ray as Doody and thought he was excellent. He actually had an amazing stage presence and his voice was much stronger than I expected it to be. I was really surprised.

I was never a huge Ray fan on the XF, but didn't dislike him either. Seeing him in Grease and DOI has changed my opinion of him completely.

but he suits Doody far better than he suits Danny....sorry folks I couldn't take him seriously as Danny. What about a different leading man role? Can't think what right now.

You look at the main people who've played Danny in the past .. John Travolta, Craig McLachlan etc .. most of them TALL, well built, TALL, 'manly' .. and let's face it Ray is more 'boy next door' than leader of a High School gang .. and did I mention tall?

I just can't see Ray as Danny I'm afraid ... well, unless they get Kylie to play Sandy (or Janet Krankie )

Ray is very manly!

I really want to go see him in Grease, haven't seen Grease on the stage for years!

I didn't like the swing style of music he left XF doing, but there's no doubting he is a superb dancer and skater

Manly .... Ray .. Donal .. Ellery

Now, which of those is the boy next door I wonder

I'd never say John Travolta's portrayal of Danny Zucco was manly...there were some decidedly camp moments in the film!!

There were. I have avoided show as I cannot imagine anyone else as Danny.

Danny Bayne is actually very good in the role. I'd say his is a more masculine version of Danny Zucco than John Travolta's though.
