Another album very soon would be nice. "Call Off The Search" hasn't left my CD player since it was delivered on Saturday.

BTW she's originally from Georgia, in the former USSR.

I've mentioned these names before in another thread but if you like Katie Melua, keep an ear out for:

Alice Martineau
Bic Runga
Anika Moa

So it looks like Katie Melua is straight into the top ten.

She could be making the Christmas top three after a lot more people hear how good her song is.

I'm pleased other people are listening to Katie Melua.

She is now rising fast up the charts as more people appreciate the unique quality in her voice and the freshness of her music.
Last week she was the fastest rising album, this week could be even better.

While pompous music snobs like Dotmusic panned her as "sounds exactly like the juvenile lead's starry-eyed-and-wistful showstopper in a third-rate West End musical," and record shops held minimal or no stock of her album and undermerchandised her single, which will hang around for a long time in the charts, Amazon now shows she has risen to become their sixth best selling album.

Amazon Chart

1/Life for Rent ~ Dido

2/In Time: The Best of REM 1988 - 2003 ~ REM

3/Friday's Child ~ Will Young

4/Love Actually SOUNDTRACK ~ Various

5/Permission to Land ~ The Darkness

6/Call Off the Search ~ Katie Melua

7/Now That's What I Call Music Vol 56 ~ Various

8/Number Ones ~ Michael Jackson

Katie Melua is about to hit the big time.

I came across her last summer after reading about her on the Eva Cassidy website... she mentions Eva as one of her biggest influences. While I still prefer Eva's music overall, there's sadly not much more left to come from that source Katie's album will make a nice addition for when I'm not in the mood for Eva or Hayley Westenra

Someone said above that Katie's British. I know she's lived here for many years but she was born in Georgia (the ex-USSR one), lived in Russia too. Does anyone know if she's definitely British now, or Georgian, Russian or dual/(triple?)! nationality?

But its gone down another three places this week! Do you think enough people will start buying it to push it back up again?

The single's gone down three places. I would have thought that was good for a new act without much publicity, compare it to most other chart placings or Madonna who fell 22 places!

I think the album will continue to rise. When I bought the album it wasn't even being merchandised in Asda or Woolies. There was only one shop in my whole town that had it, Virgin and they had it at 25. Not surprising its sales ranking is a lot higher on the net than in the charts. I think the demand it there for the album to rise and the single to hang around.

Well the album sales have risen by three copies-the three I've sent out as Christmas presents! The woman in Asda gave me a funny look and said 'You DO know these are all the same"?!
Reminded me of the time on holiday in the States when I bought several cds plus two cassettes and the woman asked me was I aware I was buying cassettes!!
