Give her a chance. Loads of artists are making the crossover from tv manufactered bands to good artists. Girls Aloud and Liberty X for instance.

Really didn't want Westlife at No.1!

Just out of interest, where do you get the sales figures from and are they official?

Just wondered as I'd like to know how certain albums are doing! Cheers.

So the good old british tradition of bitch about and bring down the successfull still goes strong!!
There's freedom of speech and then moan-for-the-hell-of-it

I'm not a fan of her bro-ken style, but good on her.

10 or even 20 years ago alex parks would've disapeared without trace with a song like that. ”

I am sick and tired over the debates over RTV stars and warring factions, but I cant let you get away with that.

15/20 years ago, Alex would have been given a chance- as there was no internet, no Kazaa, and people were open to new music acts.

Do you really think that manufactured bands only came in with Pop Idol? Even the Beatles were manufactured, as, to a lesser extent, were The Stones. You really think that Mick was ever a real rebel? Phooey

I'm an absolute folk nut, which proably makes my contribution to a Music Forum suspect, as, like C&W, people think it's a niche market.

Every Music form is valid...just because it doesn't appear in a youth orientated chart, doesn't mean it's negated.

So, I wish Alex all the best. - Will is a class act IMHO. So they were found through RTV programmes. Does that make them any worse than The Monkees?

The problem was her single wasn't good enough to grab a lot of attention. That single should have been her best, better than anything she ever sang on FA, and I don't think it was. That single should have been number one to help flog the album to keep it high in the public eye in the run up to Christmas when most CDs are sold.

I disagree. There was still enough hype from the BBC to ensure a lofty chart position and so it would be a pretty safe bet with minimal risk to use a song that, although good, is not the strongest song from the album. There are a couple of songs that she could use, still left on the album, which should give her a high chart position without having to rely on the recently-departed Fame Academy show.

I believe that Popstars did the same with Hear'Say. Show Me The Way..., not Pure and Simple, was the first choice of song for the initial release. The 'powers that be' recognised that they could send a second-rate song to number one off the back of such a TV programme.

I'm not saying that MTWIT is a second-rate song - far from it. Just that it isn't the strongest song on the album and I look forward to the next single.

boy if alex had sold a billion copies people would have said "well its all TV hype she won't last" but she only sells near 100K so shes onviously about to be made unemployed.

Whilst I dont particularly like her style (it more depressing than DIDO (Who I Like)), an album that will be sold solely on her winning FAME ACADEMY cannot really be judged properly.

The same goes for WILL'S & GARETH'S first album.

Wait until the second one,.

Gareth's ahs pretty much bombed but WILL'S is quite good.

We will see if Alex ha any longevity in the next 12 months

Just to update, Polydor are obviously taking the "Will" route with Alex, she is going to LA for Six months to work on her 2nd album, with Collaborators including Guy Chambers, and alot of American talent.
