Foxsat HDR gives no sound via the HDMI cable
Just got my Foxsat HDR delivered (yay!) but have hit a problem with the HDMI connection: I have it connected to a Samsung LE32R41BD and whilst the 1080i picture is awesome, I am getting no sound through at all.
I've not used HDMI connections before so I could be doing something stupid, but I have tried looking for audio menu options on both the TV and the HDR that might be causing this and I can't see anything. The volume is not muted on either, and the problem affects SD and HD channels. I could really use some help to figure this out or I'll be parting company with my new toy... |

Was the telly on when you connected? Try switching it and the HDR off at the wall and making sure the connections are fully plugged in before switching back on. I had that prob with my Samsung telly once and doing that cured it !!

Mmm, was hoping it would be something simple like that, but have tried powering off both devices, and then switching one on at a time in either order, but no joy...

OK. Some more things to try.
How about the volume on the pvr?Have you ensured that it is up full? Or have you inadvertently switched on the 'internal mute' from the telly menu (ie not the mute button on the telly remote)? Have you tried the scart connection? Are you getting volume when using that? Oh aye. Have you tried a different HDMI slot on the telly? |

Well, have checked that the volume on both TV and PVR is up to max, and I comfirm that I had tried powering off at the wall. There is only one HDMI connection on this particular model, so no option there. I've tried choosing all options for SRS STXT (Off, 3D, Stereo) and Auto Volume (Off and On) - have also checked the Internal Mute is Off - otherwise all of the audio options just mentioned are disabled. Have tried the HDMI cable supplied with the Foxsat as well as a separately purchased one but from a quick look at the spec it doesn't seem that the audio and video are carried separately anyway.
Thanks for the pointers Blue Flame, but it looks like my HD aspirations will have to remain just that for the time being! |

Have you tried it with the scart to check you are def receiving volume from the box?
Do you have a hifi/surround sound system that you could link up with the optical connections to see if that works? Sorry I am running out of ideas now. It may well be that the box is faulty and that you need a replacement. |

I've had a quick lookie on my box and can't find an obvious point that may cause your problem so it may be an idea to do a factory reset and start afresh

I know this won't help solve your problem with the HDR, but it might help convince you that that it's faulty and should be replaced.
I have a DVD player that upscales to 1080i via HDMI. That worked fine for about 18 months until, without any warning, no sound on HDMI. No amount of power recycling or different leads would solve the problem, and sound is OK on TV from other HDMI sources. The DVD sound still works on SCART. So, it's possible for a box to develop a fault that only affects sound on HDMI. Look's like your HDR came with such a fault. |

You need to try it with another telly with HDMI connection or the other waya round so you can eliminate whether its a problem with the HDR or the TV.
Assuming its not a setting in either, then the problem of a non functional HDMi could lie within the tv, HDR or cable. The only way I see of sorting it out is to eliminate each one in turn. As TV's can be difficult to lug around, if you know someone with eg a Playstation 3 or Blu Ray player with a HDMI who'd be willing to bring it round, then you could try plugging their HDMI source into your cable and tv and seeing if you get picture and sound on the Samsung. If you do it could be a faulty HDR. if not, then it could be either the cable (switch it out and try their cable instead) or failing that the TV. |

Strangely enough, just come across an identical problem on a different Samsung TV. Back to base, fetch another HDR, no sound. Back to base, unplug my own working HDR, take it round, plug it in, no sound. Try my own one in my own install again, hey presto, sound. Diagnosis: TV knackered.
