Voip Phone & Vista. Losing speaker sound
I know this has been discussed before but I can't find a thread, perhaps someone can help.
I have a Sogatel voip phone which gives excellent quality sound but once its attached to the laptop sound to the speakers stops. I can only get the speakers to work if I disconnect the phone and restart the computer. I've tried all the sound settings but I can't find how to fix this. I'm using Vista , I could only find a cabled phone at the time I bought it, none of the wireless ones would work with vista. If anyone knows the fix I would love to know please. |

Usually you need to set Vista up to default to your speaker, but then set the VoIP program up to ignore the default and use the VoIP 'phone' - not really a phone just a USB soundcard and speaker and mic.
If you are serious with VoIP you'd simply get a hardware device that plugs into your router and allows you to connect a regular phone either corded or DECT cordless, or a proper VoIP phone that connects to the router, some routers come with VoIP ports built in. |

I use it only on my laptop, I have a hands free one which works perfectly on my other pc's but not the vista. As I often use it away from home it needs to be connected to it. I wondered whether anyone knows of another tweak which would work. |

Hi Katia, Could you please tell me the name of above -mentioned device please. I want to use one of my normal DECT phones for VOIP. I presume I could buy it at somewhere like Maplins. Thanks, Anne-Sophie. |

Thanks, Anne-Sophie. It's called an ATA, analogue telephone adapter. Maplin do not seen to have any at the moment nor PC World. I got mine from Staples a couple of years ago. However most VOIP providers will sell you one if you go PAYG or may supply you one if on monthly contract, check out Sipgate or Vonage, amongst others. Personally I use Sipgate. |

Have a look around for the Linksys PAP2 (maybe PAP2T), should set you back around £30 and supports 2 lines. If you get them on ebay, be wary as some might be customised for other VoIP providers so would require abit of re-flashing.

Thanks Fred and Beavis. Will look into those possibilities.

Sorry for delay in replying, not long got back from holiday, yes the device is an ATA.
My current one is a PAP2. I'm using Sipgate and Vyke on line one going through MySIPSwitch and VoIP Stunt on line two. |
