Is there any way to record BBCi on my Humax freesat box ?

I can on my Humax Freeview box, by selecting channels 301, 302, etc.

However I have just purchased a Freesat box to be used in my main TV room and want to record the practice from F1 on BBCi (this will become more important as the year progresses as I believe some qualifying will be on BBCi and some of the Moto GP races fro 125 and 250).

I cant find the BBCi channels as channels 301, 302 etc. dont exist on the Freesat Box and when I tried to record a BBCi channel last night on the Freesat box nothing happened.

I will be very disapointed if I cant record interactive as this was one of the prime reasons for purchasing a freesat box

To the best of my knowledge you can't, but it may be possible to set it up in non-Freesat mode and somehow record that. I'm sure someone else with better knowledge than me will be along soon though

With the greatest of respect, if this was one of the prime reasons for buying the box, wouldn't it have been better to have checked this out before handing over the cash?

Unfortunately it's not possible to record the red button streams on the PVR you may possibly be able to record via the scart socket to a DVD record but you would still have a problem with scheduling the box to to right stream at the right time of day.

According to the BBC, this is not true.

Whereas you can watch it on the red button or the web site as well, ALL qualifying is on BBC1 (except Brazil which is on BBC2), and ALL the races are on BBC1.

The red button streams are unavailable in non-freesat mode and even if they were how would you know which stream would carry the video you wanted to record unless the beeb advertised which they intended to use

You are quite correct, however I made an assumption based upon the fact that the Humax Freeview box could record interactive, and wouldnt have thought that a new product would have reduced Functionality. And to be honest after reading through this forum I don’t think I could have confirmed one way or another. Which is the reason I posted this thread.

There seemed to be a suggestion that you could set the interactive stations manually. But no explanation of how this would work.

If you are already able to record the interactive channels on your Humax 'Freeview' box why is there a necessity to do so on the 'Freesat' box? I'm not saying that it wouldn't be nice to have the option.

However the other practice sessions are on the interactive red button and the support races for Moto GP, plus the qualifying sessions are to be on the red btton

The plan was to use the Freeview box in the bedroom and replace it with the Freesat box in the main viewing room as it had HD output (I also wanted to be able to access ITV HD in the main veiwing room)

So now looks like I will have to have SKY+ HD, Freesat and Freeview all in the main veiwing room.

I dont really want to only be able to watch the practice seessions and MotoGp sutff in the bedroom as I normally have a few mates round and a few of us propped up on the bed with a few beers going down may offend the wife

I've no idea. Which is why I was in pains to point out in my post that my knowledge of this is very limited. The reason I even put it forward as a possibility was that I remember doing something similar with EyeTV in the past - I'm certainly not trying to tell anybody that you definitely can with this box.

My post was not phrased very well it was not meant to sound brusque it was only meant to confirm that the streams were unavailable and the additional limitations of scheduling

..and even if they were how would you know which stream would ....
this should be how would one know. It wasn't directed at you personally

No need for the explanation, but thanks anyway.

It would certainly be pretty nice to be able to record these streams from time to time...I'm sure someone will come up with something. This whole discussion has tempted me to have another look at the EyeTV thing again...

Indeed it would.. I'm with Skid Solo on the MotoGP front and also snooker would be nice to record should other commitments arise. I do have a Panasonic freesat TV and it is possible to do a direct TV record onto DVD but the scheduling is still a problem.

Can Bob Cat explain why it is not possible to tune these streams in non freesat mode, when it is possible on the Panasonic Freesat TVs, and most FTA boxes/software?
