Made the move from Inverto to Humax HDR, generally quite happy until...

The lady of the house finally decides it's time to try it out, not so tricky since the remote is a Harmony so buttons are much the same. She settles down to watch Heroes in HD and comes in to tell me about the last few mins are missing from the recording, not very impressed...

I tried another Heroes and got even worse results, it recorded about the last 20 mins of the program and the next 20 mins of the one that followed it, not very good.

Looking at the info pane for the recordings, I see "Billed date and time: MON 23 MARCH 00:47 ~ 01:24" then below it by the main titles "MON 23 MARCH 00:45 ~ 01:25". This kind of implies that the accurate record metadata was 00:47-01:24 which presumably is what the box recorded, thereby shortening the recording by 3 mins.

The other one which was way out, 21.00-21.45 scheduled time, "Billed date and time 21.23-22.10", hence half of Heroes and half something else. This is RUBBISH

The way this is going, I'm going back to scheduled times with large start and end buffer and forget accurate record until its..er.. accurate.

Any thoughts?

The BBC got the EPG data wrong?

Had Heroes been on ITV HD, I would have said, "Par for the course" . But BBC are usually very good at getting their Accurate Timing data right, and that's probably what went wrong here . Perhaps Danielle will explain it in her next blog.

There is a remote chance that the software in your box has got screwed up. Should that be the case, a factory reset would be called for. But don't do that unless you get "It worked for me" replies.

Unfortunately the BBC seem to forget about BBC HD, and while they may correct the SD channels, their HD one seems to far more often be ignored.

I think you're probably right. I've since done a quick check of other stuff and it's all bang on, even a couple of ITV HD items! I guess the answer is to focus on BBC2 for Heroes and hope it improves with time, would be a shame to give up the accurate record feature.

How could you leave your Inverto Mark?

I have 3 and couldn't part with one of them. I have the Humax too but my faithful, reliable Inverto is right beside it and I only use the Humax for recording 3 channels. My Inverto is going nowhere

Just for information, for my sins, I record the HD version of Heroes using series link/accurate recording and every episode has recorded fine. So doubt it's an EPG/Transmission problem. Can't say the same about the present series though, utter tosh!

Three! How on earth do you find the time to watch all the recorded stuff?! TBH my Inverto has served well but it is looking long in the tooth and there are things that annoy me: waiting for the pointless thumbnail creation when entering library; occasional series of black thumbnails with slowdown that goes with it; play/pause on the same button; juddering when resuming from high speed ffwd; no skip feature - actually that's quite a list!

I did record them from very obscure times, in fact trying to find them on an online guide (the very good zingzang.co.uk) drew a blank. I've now scheduled the next regular episode to record from both channels, we'll see how it goes.

On Heroes, I can't help thinking the recent writers strike in the US and economy fun and games isn't helping with the writing nor special effect budgets!

Quite apart from all this, I find myself yearning for simplicity and functionality over choice, clearly I am becoming my Dad I'd readily sign up if everyone agreed to revert to just the old 4 channels, but in HD across the board with quality content and just dump the rest of the channels entirely, sadly we're way past that point!

I moved from Inverto to Humax in order to get Series Link.

Sadly the Humax has a habit of dropping timers without warning occasionally but it's still better than not having SL at all. A PVR without SL is a poor bit of kit.

My parents now have my Inverto though so it's not gone to waste. I have to admit that the 14 day on demand EPG is nice. I can get very frustrated with the Hummy waiting for it to populate sometimes.

Having 3 means I can choose to watch stuff in bed etc
I haven't had a single problem with mine Mark. Play/pause on same button used to annoy me but I now prefer it to seperate buttons. Haven't had judder etc. Not sure what you mean by 'skip' button.....do you know pressing the big round button skips adverts? (not in the manual) I have found it to be the best piece of kit I've ever owned. None of my 3 have ever missed a single recording! If the Humax had made the remote and guide anything like the Inverto I would have been well pleased but it didn't so.......

Hi Andrue, The Humax series link doesn't work on the channels I watch so I can't even use it. Wouldn't say the lack of series link is poor as the Inverto makes up for it in every other respect for me. The Humax guide is rubbish compared to it so I only use the Inverto 14 day guide which downloads at 3am every morning as you know, so none of that waiting around for the Humax which I find really annoying too.

I have 3 in case any break as I won't be able to buy any more
