No Doubt - It's My Life
Bill Clinton
03-12-2003
Anyone notice what a great cover this is, I like pop but it shows the state of the singles charts if this can only get in at no 20.
It's a great song, better than the whole top 10 put together this week. If the charts went on downloads I'm sure this would be higher.

A good song, but it does remind me a lot in parts of the old Supertramp song "It's raining again".

Matter of opinion but I think it is rubbish preferred the original - usual I like no doubt as well.

I like No Doubt - there are better songs by them that have done worse.

Like that great song on TOTP2 last night.

Great Cover?!?! They've ruined it.

Talk Talk's version is just a million times better. Second rate bands like No Doubt should NOT be allowed to cover great songs !!!

It isn't as good as the original but they have not ruined it, its a lot better than many other covers i have had the misfortune to hear!

Talk Talk's original was absolute perfection. You cannot improve on perfection, so why try?

Plus, Mark Hollis had a truly beautiful voice.

There are worse covers. I can say this after just listening to S Club 8's cover of Tears On My Pillow!

It's a very good cover but I don't think Radio 1 even put it on their playlist

I love this song, and i do think Gwen Staffani (sp) is the best looking woman in pop. The video to this song is fantastic.

While i was always a fan of the original (and lucky enough to see Talk Talk live in the '80s) I do love this cover - it also intoduces a new generation to Talk Talk's original, which i think they'll enjoy!!

BTW what i really hate is that Carphone Warehouse(?) have called their phone service Talk Talk!!

How bloody annoying are their radio adverts too?!
I think they are trying to advertise how bad the phone line is because the person at the other end always mis-hears what is being said.

is that a cover of the Dr Alban megahit?

Luckily no. That will forever be associated with sanitary towels I think.....

I have to admit I like both versions. Talk Talk's original is prime new wave, and No Doubt have turned it into a decent pop song. Considering the staggeringly bland cover versions being peddled by boy/girl/zombie bands I think it's a worthwhile cover. No Doubt have done some decent retreads of new wave on their albums, particularly 'New'.

Does Radio 1 have that much influence on what gets in the chart these days?

That has to be a good thing. I'm 20 and got into them because "Life's What You Make It" was on a compilation I bought and they are recommended on the Marillion website.

Having heard Talk Talk's original song I definitely prefer No Doubts version. I dislike the sound of the vocals in Talk Talks version. I was surprised by the fact that No Doubt only got to number 20 with this song!

I love Mark Hollis. His vocal on the song displayed both beauty and desperation IMO. Definitely one of my favourite singers, but each to their own.
