I like Debra's eyes
I quite liked Kate, sort of.. until someone in another thread said she looked like Heather Mills a bit and now I can sort of see it, I've gone right off her.
Anita on BBC2 right now looks much better than on the actual show.

I've only caught a glimpse of the red head so can't say anything yet

I think calling anyone on the Apprentice 'stunning' is a bit over-the-top. They look like normal people and I think some people assume just because they're on tv they have to look pretty. 'Stunning' is someone with a rare beauty and that's not the type on The Apprentice. It's a reality show about the best business person, not a model talent show/beauty contest! The 'Best Model Apprentice' might work as an idea. Tyra Banks can co-host with Sir Alan.

The men were freaking hideous. I guess last year spoiled us but couldn't they have put one little bit of eye candy in? ****ing ugly sods. I want pretty people on TV; I can watch ugly people down the pub.

The red haired woman had nice hair. REALLY nice hair. Exactly the kind of hair I have a total fetish for. Mmmm... and I'll shut up now because it would be bad to keep talking.

That's it as far as eye candy goes. I hope Sirallun doesn't fire the hair too early on.

Well,

A) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (to quote the cheesy saying). What some people might think is ugly someone else might think is stunning or somewhere in between!

B) Pretty people most likely wouldn't enter the business world. They might choose modelling - if they fit the right height look etc - or if they're more creative they might choose singing, acting or whatever.

C) Going on about their looks is kind of shallow as it's reducing the show to its most superficial level. The show is about finding the most talented business person, not giving the viewers some 'eye candy'. What they look like is irrelevant, and if you're watching The Apprentice to look at pretty people then you're watching it for the wrong reason. Having said all that, it's fair to say the men are not that attractive looking.

Damn, now you got me being superficial.

*g* but I am not watching this show to be educated in business! I think that would be a very dodgy way of learning about stuff.
And I'm sure it's perfectly possible to find candidates who are attractive as well as being otherwise good candidates, out of all the applications they get. I don't think people's looks are ever irrelevant on TV, sorry to say. I know it's shallow. But I turn to reality TV for mindless, frivolous entertainment. And contestants who are at least of above average attractiveness is part of that. It enhances the viewing experience, is all I'm saying.

edit: and yes, they are really not hot!

Sure, I see what you're saying but it's a bit like saying "forget their business skills, let's cast them in the show because they're good looking." That would be unfair. The final list of candidates must be based on alleged ability rather than physical appearance. I don't think The Apprentice should consider the look of the contestants.

Perhaps in another reality show you could get away with a bit of 'face prejudice' - possibly picking a pretty woman to appeal to the male viewers - but I don't think you could try and find a page three sort of girl and put her in the Apprentice. I think the show would lose credibility. I don't think most people watch the Apprentice to admire the faces of the candidates, I think they watch the show to see the candidates making a mess of the challenges and seeing them bicker in the boardroom. Ruth - the butch lesbian - would have been less memorable if she were very pretty. It was her butch look that made her stand out. Lee McQueen was quite good looking and he won so there you go - good looks and good business skills can work hand in hand but I doubt McQueen was picked based on his appearance.

Yes, there is far less totty this year than in previous years. Only Rocky really stands out in the lads.

You want pretty people on TV?

When I used to go to the pub I would have preferred pretty women there!

Why does every Reality Show have to come with a side order of totty?

I think they are told to describe themselves in ridiculous ways. Can such obviously incompetent people really have such a high opinion of themselves?

I would be very surprised if looks play any part in the selection process of the Apprentice. I doubt the look of the potential contestant has any bearing. I think it's down to their personality and business skills/experience.

I think you're right. They're probably just to provide great sound-bites on the opening titles.

"I find making money better than sex" sounds better than "Well I'm a hard worker and I just hope Sir Alan appreciates that I can only do my best"

The bolded bit is exactly what I am saying! If you can have the best of both worlds, you should take it. And with all the applications this show gets, I am sure they can have that. They aren't seriously picking the 16 best candidates, they are picking the 16 best candidates who'll make good TV, and looks are part of that.

Also, I am pretty sure Lee's looks must have been taken into consideration. If nothing else it's been shown that we take this stuff into consideration at the unconscious level all the time. But if you're casting a reality TV show, you take it into consideration quite consciously too. I've even seen articles on how to get onto The Apprentice that had "be good looking" as a key piece of advice.

They may have made a conscious decision not to take looks into account this year for whatever reason. Presumably to make the show more credible? I think it was a mistake.

Also, Ruth was kind of hot in a Supernanny way. And there is no denying she made great TV.

Which is what I liked about The Apprentice, although I'm beginning to sense that the selection process has changed ever since the last series.

Looks and character are just as important as ability because the show has to be a ratings winner.

"I find making money is better than sex"

Surely, it's relative?

Great night of sex or making £1?

Making a million pounds or realising you've made a mistake?

It's an established part of the show. The candidates have to say something silly "I'm the best of the best!" and when they get fired they go on the BBC 2 Apprentice Fired show and have to defend their comments. I think it's part of the humilation ritual. Say something dumb and then admit you were a prat to say it!

Depends on the woman and the amount.

I think he was talking about the thrill of making money. He gets a bigger buzz out of making money than having sex. Perhaps if were having sex whilst making money he would die of orgasm overload.

Maybe he just hasn't had any good sex

Doubt if he's got much experience of either - those who can do, those who can't brag about it.
