I think it's Connie whose ability to make the decision to compete was being questioned. She's a lot younger than Faryl, but even she seemed to enjoy participating, and BGT isn't as demanding on contestants as XF.
I like the singers - as I can't see very well, I can't appreicate all of the acts, although it's funny to hear them described, and it can be interesting to see comedians or ventrilpquists on the show. My mum was watching the American version with me last night, and commenting that there were too many singers involved. Some acts need BGT rather than XF as singing is only a part of their act, they also play an instrument or do impressions/ventriolquism or dance. In America, there's no XF and groups can't compete in AI so they rely on AGT, and I guess if groups are allowed in the American version, they should be allowed in the British version. As for the kids, it's less stressful for them being involved in BGT than XF, and there have always been kids' talent shows on TV. Classical singers tend to do better on BGT than XF too - XF had Rhydian, but he was a very appealing crossover act, and although more classical acts seem to be entering XF now, they're not likely to put many through on XF when they've already had Rhyd and BGT have had several successful classical acts.
I do think singers should still be allowed to apply for BGT, but the producers/judges should be careful about how many they advance to the semis and the finals, and what else they have to offer.
