Nokia nk402 (5110 on orange) in spain?
I know it's a really old phone, but my Dad has an old Nokia NK402 (5110, but Orange version) and he wants to give it to one of his friends who lives in Spain most of the year.
The idea is that they can use a pay as you go card in the UK and similar sort of card (but spanish) in Spain. Two questions, 1) Does anyone know if Orange locked their NK402s? (if so does anyone know anywhere that unlocks them via email and do these email services work? 2) Will this phone work in Spain on their networks or do they have a different frequency to us? Thanks Lalaland |

Ok, here's my extent of knowledge on the matter:
1. Can't tell you for definate if it's locked or not, but Orange have always had a habit of locking phones so I'd suspect it is. You could try putting in a different network sim (O2, T-Mobile, etc) to test it. If it accepts it, it's unlocked. I've never tried to remote unlock sites myself, but if you're going to use one I've heard good things about this place: http://remoteunlocker.com/shop/produ...products_id=38 If you already have data cable for the phone I can provide you wih the software for unlocking the phone for free. 2. I'm pretty sure they use the same frequency GSM as us in Spain, so the phone should work no problem... Hope that helps! The Bhoy |

Hmmm... You may be right about the dual band thing.
I thought I remembered my mum using her brick-a-phone when we were in France a few years ago (which I assumed had the same GSM frequency as Spain), but I could very well be wrong! If both of you guys think I'm wrong, I'm inclined to believe it...

It says on GSMworld (http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_es.shtml) that the Spanish telecom providers support 900MHz & 1800Mhz anyway, so it should work fine...

Also, this site (http://64.202.114.141/compatibility-...atGuide/es.php) says it's compatible.

Yeah, sometimes the networks can be a bit funny if you're using your UK sim card & they're just basically routing it. I had a few probs in Majorca as well, but probably if it was a native sim card it'd work a bit better...

I used my old Vodafone Nokia 5110 (nk402) in Spain - I also took a Maxon MN-1 which worked as well. Neither phone was dual band, so i dont know how it worked - i just phoned Vodafone and they set it up to be used abroad for me.
