Your record of 2003

Having seen the thread about the record of the year awards, I wondered what everyone would say is their record of the year? No restrictions - no one giving you a shortlist to pick from. It'll be interesting to see what everyone likes. Oh and maybe how out of touch the award ceremony is from people on here.....

I'd vote best album of 2003:

Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta

Best album I bought in 2003:

Danse Macabre by The Faint

Best single - to tell you the truth, I don't pay too much attention to singles....

Tough call, in my opinion it's been a good year for music.

At time of typing, I would have to go for Belle and Sebastian's album - 'Dear Catastrophe Waitress'

The best album would have to be Absolution by Muse, followed closely by The Vertigo of Bliss by Biffy Clyro

Best Album would be either Muse - Absolution, or Evanescence - Fallen.

Best single would be Blu Cantrell - Breathe, or Time Is Running Out by Muse.

binty, how does the Devin Townsend album compare with his other stuff? I used to listen to Strapping Young Lad (though I guess my tastes have mellowed a little since thern), and I loved the Ocean Machine album.

I think anyone who's mentioned the Muse album, should check out some Mars Volta. They're not that similar really, but they both have that big classic rock thing going on. The Mars Volta probably has it's roots more in 70s rock, and a bit of prog. Whereas a band such as the Darkness seem like a parody, the Mars Volta are moving things forwards. If you're the sort of person who loves albums that keep on changing every time you listen to them (you know what I mean, I hope ), it's a great and timeless rock record.

I'm mainly a fan of SYL and his heavier work (have you heard The Physicist?) but Accelerated... is great stuff IMO.
It's not as heavy as SYL, but heavy enough that it packs a punch and he hasn't lost his talent for bringing melody to the heaviest of songs It's mainly clean (as opposed to death) vocals as well and he sounds great
I would recommend it to any fan of Dev, and if you like bands such as In Flames and Soilwork, you'll like this...
