Humax PVR re-boots during plyaback
Anyone else experienced the humax re-booting during the playback of a recording. Has happend twice now in the last 3 days and is very frustrating. Is it a known bug or should I contact Humax?

The OP did not say how long they've had the box but, if it's new, I think he should simply take it back to the retailer for exchange, if that is convenient.
Rebooting and crashing are not common problems and could be caused by hardware, rather than software, even though the actual reboot or crash may be due to the software not behaving well in the event of an unexpected hardware event. The problem with a factory reset is that it might solve the problem temporarily, for example if an unexpected hardware event resulted in corruption of some data in non-volatile memory that, in turn, causes the reboot or crash under certain circumstances. A factory reset will cure the data corruption, but not the dodgy hardware that caused it. It may be some time before the fault occurs again and, by then, the unit may be outside the period during which the purchaser can expect it to be exchanged for a new unit (or refund). As we've seen in another thread, it would then be returned for repair but actually be swapped for a refurbished box with the risk that the replacement has an intermittent fault that does not show up on testing. |
