I take it nobody then? I thought these 80s rockers might have some fans on here.

The 80's was the time to see them. Everything after Sparkle in the rain is dire.

I suppose you thought Once Upon a Time was too commercial. Still, it was a massive hit both sides of the Atlantic back in '85/'86.

Commercial success or not it wasn't as good as 'Sparkle....' as mark21667 said. I didn't mind Once Upon a Time as an album but after that they lost the plot somewhat

For me Simple Minds begin and end with the album New Gold Dream.

I think that's a bit harsh.

Once Upon a Time and Street Fighting Years were much better albums than most of today's artists could manage.

And I loved Jim Kerr's voice.

Check out the earlier albums such as Empires and Dance, Sons and Fascination etc. If you truly appreciate Simple Minds you will see they are vastly superior to their post 'Sparkle In The Rain' commercial pap.

i saw them back in 1989 or so at Meadowbank - @ the time *belfast child* had come out, and they were really good.

i think Simple Minds must surely be the runaway winners of the Band Who Went From Being So Great To Band That Are Now So Crap Award tho' - as has been said already, stuff like Sons and Fascination was way ahead of its time almost, and *Sparkle in the Rain* and *New Gold Dream* are fantastic albums (although I prefer *Sparkle...*)

*Once Upon A Time* was pretty good too, but after that they went downhill remarkably quickly unfortunately.

I'm not sure, I can think of loads of other nominees, but we're getting off the point!

Very Good .23 songs ,all the faves except Belfast Child.Jim Kerr looks fit and well. It's just a shame that the 9o's stuff never quite
matched the 80's
