Post office phone service

Thinking of changing to this http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/p...diaId=19300217

presently with BT .

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of the post office phone service, or any other provider.

I Do not need any broadband offers, as already got that via 02, using telephone line.

I am going over to the post office myself in a couple of weeks. My brother uses them for broadband and phone and is happy with them.

Phone wise you should have no problem, it uses the same system as BT, in fact it is a BT package anyway, just with the post office name on it.

You will notice no difference than if you are using BT, but you pay the Post office instead, the good thing is you can pay over at your local post office and you have calls to mobiles and some other countries for free at the weekend.

If you don't like it then after a month you can move that is what is so good, no contract.

Just waiting for the end of my contract with the company I am with at the moment and then I will be gone.

Are you out of any line rental and/or calls package contracts with BT?

Oh yes, out of any contracts. Phoned them up and double checked.
Thats another reason for moving, as you mention so are probably aware, i wasn't until read about it on a DSthread that BT now put you on 12 month contracts that automaitcaly renew, if you do or dont make any changes to your calling package, also they dont let you no its up for renewal either, even though youre not aware your even on one for changing something!

So lucky me hasnt made any changes recently, so a phone call to confirm as they charged me £30 for canceling my broadband phoned them up and they admited it was a mistake and refunded my money

You dont have to take a BT 12 month rolling contract if you dont want to,and if you do they normally tell you its coming up for renewal.

Its worth noting that at the present time you can still use www.18185.co.uk on PO Homephone for cheaper peak calls, cheaper weekday mobile calls, cheaper ngn calls etc.

Switch to PO Homephone via http://www.quidco.com/post-office/ and your get a £9.25 cashback.

Nice one, thank you for that.
Iooks like i was obviously misinformed about the contract then

Still it wont affect my decision to switch

I don't care for long contracts.

I believe with the PO you get free weekend calls to UK mobiles.

What I really want if for companies to go back to real phone numbers that you can call for free instead of 0844 and 0871 etc.

But of course that's unlikely as the companies always do what's best for them and the customer is forgotten about.

Your right there!

All done, just gone past the point of no return and hit .. confirm order ... got a 10 day wait now to see if have done right thing

Moved my broadband from Bt recently and have no regrets so should be fine with post office.

Just got stuck with habit that Bt were the only choice, but have more open mind recently and am thinking like Americans do. eg England is changing and BT don't rule, well apart from them always owning the line but theres always cable

Theres these for starters http://www.homephonechoices.co.uk/ho...providers.html

I would agree with all of that but would say the UK is changing... as this is a UK forum.

I try to have nothing whatsoever to do with BT.

As far as I'm concernied they have alway been a shower of **** and I used to work for them many years, ago but then they were the Post Office, and the tel customer service was rubbish even then.

Sorry didnt mean to miss out rest of UK just quoted England as wasnt sure about set up in scotland or ireland , even think Hull has there own set up eg Kingston communications i think?

Probably a reason that things are changing that BT set up Openreach, they just look after lines etc i think? But then theres always cable

I can't get cable.

Therre needs to be more choices for people out in the sticks.

I'm using mobile BB but it's 2G out here in in rural areas so dialup speeds ( my dongle is stuck out the window on a pole ).

I can't join the post office phone service because the tel line is too far from the local tel exchange.

it does http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/p...diaId=87500738

or the standard package =

5.
How much can I download?
If you choose Post Office® Broadband Standard you’ll be given a monthly allowance of 5GB – more than enough for surfing the web and checking your email. If you choose Post Office® Broadband Extra, there is no restriction on the amount you can download, subject to our Fair Use Policy, of course.

6.
What if I download more than my usage allowance?

If you download more than the 5GB allowed by your Post Office® Broadband Standard package, don’t worry. You can still use your broadband and continue downloading content. However, if you exceed your download limit we will contact you to discuss ways in which we can help you enjoy the internet more, for example you might want to think about upgrading to Post Office® Broadband Extra. Please note however that our Fair Use Policy applies to use of your Post Office® Broadband Standard package.

im happy with my 02 broadband £7.50 mth unlimited.

I can see a figure of 5Gb for the standard broadband but for broadband extra all I can see is Fair Use policy.
If there is an actual amount listed I can't see it.

I had broadband for a little while with ADSL24 and their's was 30Gb peak and 300Gb off peak.

i'm with Post Office, and think its great, obviously its the same as BT, but the mobile calls at weekends make a massive difference.... and as someone said, go through quidco and you get cashback... also, if you recommend a friend, you both get £10...

I'm running O2 broadband on my line, another excellent deal, £9.75/month, but I got 3 months free, and £70 cashback through quidco.... its worth switching to O2 for your broadband for the 70quid cashback alone, though the service is excellent, and no download limits

oh sorry, with you now, its unlimited so presume thats same as my 02 .. unlimited . supose if you were downloading realy stupid amounts eg left on 24\7 continous downloads you may get a warning, but as im on 02 havent heard of anyone being warned, so wouldnt worry about it

stick your number in these see what they say, anything should be better than dongle out of window http://i44.tinypic.com/2r7x0cm.jpg

You can use Bt without the contract, but all you get for your line rental is line rental. You got to pay more for free evening and weekend calls if you don't want the contract.

Around 18 days left and I can switch, well I should think I can put the wheels in motion a little before.

Parents switched several months ago and save about 20 quid a quarter even as fairly light phone users. I have PO for phone and BB and reckon I save about 60 quid a quarter! Not had any issues so far with PO.
